#53 The Playboy’s Plain Jane by Cara Colter, Harlequin Romance #4005, 2008

Katie Pritchard owns the The Flower Girl, a flower shop in Hillsboro, Ontario, Canada.

She was twenty six and divorced. She was determined to keep everything at an arm’s length away, including Dylan McDermott, Hillsboro’s favorite son and one of her best customers.  He was a predictable.  Every day he ran past her front window at 1 o’clock. He had a new bim… girlfriend every month and he purchased a bouquet a week. One to start it. One to show he was interested. One to apologize for forgetting a date, and one to break up.  He always seemed to have spares on the shelf waiting for him.  There was the current one, Heather, and then there was Tara and Margot and Janet etc.

He always had something to say to her or a question to ask her. He called her Katie My Lady.  On Friday’s she allowed him into her refrigerated section to pick his own special flowers for a bouquet.  Nope…. She was not going to fall into his trap.

Dylan owned a business making sports clothing.  This day he jogged into her shop and asked her how she liked the new jacket.  She scoffed and asked who would want a jacket without sleeves. Why the very word jacket implied it HAD sleeves.  When he gets back to his office he calls his designer and asks her to come to his office.  His sister calls in the meantime and suggests he ask a decent girl out if one would even listen.  This sets him to thinking and this starts the series of events that make up this story. He begins asking Katie out to everything and anything that hits his brain.  She wears uglier and uglier outfits to try to dissuade him……

Katie was deeply hurt because of the divorce.  Dylan was deeply hurt when his mom became sick and was institutionalized.  They must find a way to put their hurts aside or actually deal with them so they can get together.

It was a fun read.

Cara Colter

This was the first book by her I'd read and I enjoyed it.  The Christmas book I read by her was even better, so much so that I've started looking for her older books to see if I enjoy them as well.

I came by Cara Colter's book the opposite

way from Debbie.  I read her Christmas book first and I have this one in my "soon to be read" stack next to my reading spot.  I have a thing for 'Plain Jane' stories and after reading the other story by her I was doing the same as Debbie ~ looking for other books by her.

Hi Kathy K

The nicest part of this book is that he sees her as beautiful.  She deliberately chooses the ugliest outfits and he does not even notice them... They look at each other and really see the person. That is not giving away the story.... it is the theme thru the whole book...... I really enjoyed it.
