69. Cheryl Wyatt ~ A Soldier's Family ~ Steeple Hill Love Inspired [Mar 08]

The more I read of this new series by Cheryl Wyatt ~ Wings of Refuge ~ the more I find that this will definitely be a keeper series.  The strength of the faith that the characters display ~ and continue to deepen and learn to depend more upon ~ is, while very different from what I usually read, refreshing and uplifting.   The characters are realistic people, going through real-life difficulties; the connection that I feel with any of them is very strong.  I am enjoying these stories a lot more than I had initially expected to.

FROM the BACK:
ON A CRASH COURSE WITH LOVE
She was the woman of pararescue jumper Manny Péna's dreams.  But he'd stuck his foot in his mouth the last time he met Celia Munez.  Now, grounded after a parachuting accident, he was desperate to make amends with the beautiful widow.
But Celia wasn't having it.  The last thing she  needed was another man with a dangerous job ~ even if he had given his life to God.  Yet Manny's growing commitment to her and her troubled son began to convince her that perhaps she should take her own leap of faith.

MY NOTES:
Manny is a wonderful person; loyal, true, strong and with a heart ready for love... if he could get past the guilt that he carries over the death of his son and wife years ago.  His struggles with his faith resonate with me; it's hard to believe in God when your heart is filled with self-loathing and blame.  But his friendship with Joel and Amber has helped him come a long way in the last year or so.  Then there's his attraction to Celia and his strong liking for her son Javier.  They too know what it's like to lose someone close.  Celia is very conflicted:  Javier is a better person around Manny, but she fears that Manny's career as a PJ will lead her son into a dangerous life.  She's also afraid of her attraction to Manny, the first time since her husband's murder that she's felt something for another man.  And Javier is a very special young man; he's fighting against his mother's overprotectiveness, but with Manny's presence he has an excellent role model.  I really came to love these people and to watch them as they grew closer together was pure pleasure.  Another wonderful story from Cheryl Wyatt!

RE: A SOLDIER'S FAMILY by Cheryl Wyatt

Isn't Cheryl the coolest writer?  I mean, what a way to be intoduced (as an adult), or "reintroduced" (as a human being) to reading stories than Cheryl Wyatt/Steeple Hill and Michelle Willingham/Harlequin Historical?

You're right Marty...

Cheryl Wyatt is definitely a great author for someone who maybe doesn't read that much, or is just getting into it.

I haven't read anything by Michelle Willingham yet, but everyone that I know of that's read anything by her loves it.  I will be reading her books as well.

A Soldier's Promise...Thanks so much!

Thanks for the stellar, in-depth review of A Soldier's Family. Thanks also for blogging about A Soldier's Promise. I got word this week that A Soldier's Promise is fortunate enough to be one of the Top-Ten-Most-Blogged-About-Books on eHarlequin! In fact, I believe it came in at number 4!!

Thanks so much for contributing to that by blogging about the book.

I hadn't heard of Michelle's books before, but you all have piqued my interest. As an avid reader myself, I'm always on the lookout for great new authors.

It's your books that have created the buzz... and very deservedly so, IMHO.

I really have to hand it to Marty for bringing my attention to this series... he's done an awesome PR job for you!
