7,000 Books On the Wall!!

book club icon.JPG

I know we can do this folks, we're only 50 books off of our goal of 7,000 books read for the month of March and gearing up to at least double that by the end of April. So...no excuses Lucy, if you've got books to blog about, get busy....we're sooooo close! At the end of April we are planning to send out the first shipment of books from our Distribution Center in Buffalo to the National Center for Family Literacy and the books will assist the NCFL with their FACE literacy program.

We know Family literacy succeeds because it builds on the motivation parents have for their own children’s success. The statistics are staggering, but the good news is that WE can and are going to make a difference. Family literacy is proven to break down other barriers to success—poverty, unemployment, poor health and inadequate housing. When parents struggle with literacy and life skills, their children have fewer chances for success. Family literacy reverses that cycle by teaching the families of today in order to impact the generations of tomorrow. The Family and Child Education (FACE) program, sponsored by the Bureau of Indian Education, provides culturally responsive education, resources and support for American Indian families with children from birth to grade three. Begun in 1990, the FACE model is focused on high-quality instruction, teambuilding and networking, staff development, and evaluation. To date, the FACE program has reached more than 20,000 individuals and currently operates in 39 American Indian schools. I just know we can do this, so all together now......BLOG!

OK, Jayne.  I will register

OK, Jayne.  I will register with Lorie.  But I don't need the discount since I don't buy books on line.

March's Member of the Month!

There you go Jayne

You have reached 7k. My Raintree Sanctuary blog was number 7,000. So hopefully it will gain momentum from here on out. I just have to remember to blog about  the books I read.

Do we have to register?

Dumb question, I know. I just thought my book reviews would automatically be added to the tally.

I should add more reviews but a few books lately haven't been very good. I need to figure out how to write a nice review of those books.

Did everyone see the paragraph in the latest issue of RWR about our book challenge?

RWR etc

Jayne --

Iti s in the news section of both online and the print versions of the RWR. The RWA enotes have also just been sent out with a link to the Fox Business article on Harlequin 2.0

Have you thought of making a list, doing something for the person who reaches the 10,000 book read? Nothing big, maybe their name with the 10k crown on the home page. Something to glavanise the competitors as it were.

FWIW

Michelle S, thinking aloud.

We're working on it

That's a great idea Michelle, unfortunately until we're able to assign a numerical value to the blog entries, we'd have to go on the honor system. I'd LOVE to give out prizes to those milestone book reviewers....still plotting working on a way to accomplish it in our second round of community tweaks, or in the next release of our community platform

I got one up there...

Finally. I'm reading, just don't always have time to blog about it, but will try to get a few more up this Month, and that's not an April Fool, either. *G*

Sam

PS/Edited: I just posed a Book Review -- it shows I have read 1 book in the sidebar -- so that's right, right? It counts? No way will I make it to 10,000, LOL, but I'll get what I can up there...

Wow, Jayne ....

that's great to hear the first shipment of books will be going out so soon!  .... and to a great great program

Is there anything that we "readers" can do to help spread the word?  ..... I was thinking of maybe a flyer we could ask our local bookstores to display ..

Jayne, is there something that eHarl can do up, say in Adobe, that we could download and print up? .... I don't mind printing something up at home to hand out
