87. Samantha Hunter ~ About Last Night... ~ HB #173 ~ Mar05

While I've *seen* Sam Hunter around here on the boards, I'd not read anything by her.  Having visited some of Sam's posts, etc I had gone looking for, and found some of, her books.  So of course, when this month's challenge was announced, it made perfect sense to add her to my list of authors to read this month.  I've gotta say that the few books that I have so far aren't going to be enough!  The theme of this story is, as I've mentioned before, one of my very favourites and this story is very indicative of why.

RATING:
Excellence: Great to Excellent ~ 3.5 stars
Steaminess: YUMMY!

BOOK READ:
Samantha Hunter; About Last Night... ; HB #173; March 2005

FROM the BACK:
Miranda Carter needs to jump-start her love life.  Or make that jump sexy Colin Jacobs.  Her best buddy is the perfect man, but the studious prof needs some...encouragement.  Like one uninhibited night in her bedroom ~ lingerie, toys and all!
Colin is aching the next day, and the amnesia he's got from the bump on his head isn't helping.  He and Miranda had a fantasy evening ~ uh, didn't they?  So why can't he recall undressing such a sexy woman, or kissing every inch of her delectable body?
So he'll just have to show up for a second night, and a third...and hope that this time it will be unforgettable for both of them.

MY NOTES:
Boy this story really takes to heart the maxim that starting with deceit ends up costing more than expected (Uh, I had to paraphrase 'cause the actual quote went clear out of my mind... *sigh*)  Although I understand the premise behind it, I certainly sympathized with Miranda... after all, she's had feelings for Colin, her life-long friend, for ever and he's done everything he can to stay away.  Deciding to take matters into her own hands made sense, 'cause I doubt that Colin would have gone along with anything else...even if he'd been fantasizing about Randi for ages... and ages.  Sometimes people let their perceptions of events that occurred in the past to colour the present... and future; and if your initial premise is flawed then you're losing far more than you know!
But when all's said and done, the deceit, the aftermath and the resulting wonderful results are all worked out, and nicely too.

or a different one entirely?

I read this way back when I was
still trying to write a Blaze, and got to know Sam on the boards, way
before Lori was published and even before she got the Call

I have all of Sam's books, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you pick up her backlist

That's it! "Oh what a tangled web we weave,

...when first we practice do deceive."

Thank you Sadhbh... I was still drawing a blank.  Undecided

And I'm looking forward to reading the books of Sam's that I have on hand... and then the search begins... I LOVE backlist hunting!

Thank you so much!

I'm sorry I'm late coming ing, but I am so happy you liked this book, because it's truly one of my favorites. I'm glad you really enjoyed and saw the reason for Miranda's actions -- yes, she had to take matters into her own hands. Colin just needed a boost, LOL. But I know some reviewers didn't like her dishonesty, but you know, I think it worked out okay, too.

I had such fun with it, and Miranda remains one of my favorite heroines. One fun thing is that at the time I wrote it, I only had one dog. Shortly after it hit the shelf, I took in two little pitbull mix puppies from a rescue agency to be their "foster mom" and ended up keeping one that I named Lucy, after the dog in the book. :)

Thanks for the wonderful review, and I hope you do enjoy the backlist -- and thanks to Sadhbh for always being such a good friend and so supportive. :)

Thanks for dropping by Sam....

I have to say that as a reader, I love the author participation here on the boards.  Talk about giving the personal touch ~ I love it!  Laughing

Part of what I really enjoyed about the story, as well, is that Miranda's and Colin's relationship goes back so long... and as I said at the beginning, I really do love the theme of best / good friends becoming lovers.
  So thank you!
