93. Shiloh Walker ~ Firewalkers: Dreamer; Ellora's Cave; TPB March 2005

I"ve been a big fan of Shiloh Walker's books since the beginning of last year when I found the first of her Berkley Sensation Hunters books... I was instantly hooked and, once I discovered that she wrote for Ellora's Cave, I started to acquire her EC Hunters books.  Well, for now, I'm all caught up on them and I've begun to branch out to her other books....  I not only have a collection of her print books, but also her ebooks.  Granted there are some that I haven't yet acquired, but it's only a matter of time.  And when I came across the Firewalkers book, not realizing that it was the beginning of a series, I got it.  I can definitely say that I'm very much looking forward to finding the other stories in this series.

FROM the BACK:
Somewhere far in the future, a young woman dreams...and her dreams too often become reality.  She is a touch-empath, psy, and a dreamer ~ her gifts, and her burdens ~ living in a world of danger and deceit.  Alone and lonely, she dreams of a man who is more than human, a lover who is able to bond with her heart and soul as he loves her body.
When her dreaming pulls her fantasy lover from his world to hers, Caris is certain her every wish will become reality.
Jax is a powerful, physically beautiful specimen of male perfection...vampire.  In the blink of an eye, he finds himself in another time, another dimension, with the bright rays of a mid-day sun shining down on him.
Expecting death, he opens his eyes to see a woman standig before him.  A woman who offers him the world and changes his life when she touches him, giving him the freedom his kind has not known for millenia.
Caris' dreams have finally come true, she has gotten what she's been wishing for.  ut her dreams become her nightmares when her commanding, fearless lover joins the battle her people have launched against the World.

MY NOTES:
This book poses a bit of a conundrum for me.  Being as it's a Shiloh Walker story, I'm going to like it.  But personally, it doesn't match up with the other of her books, although I do feel that there is a lot to offer in this series.  The background of just who the Firewalkers are is fascinating; their struggles, horrifying.  I don't know what about this story didn't get to me as I had thought it would:  there were some bits and pieces that felt very contrived, but on the whole the story was balanced with the characters of the other Firewalkers.  In some ways it almost seems as though Shi tried to do too much, add too much... but this book is still a keeper; it just doesn't rate as high on my *love it* scale as the rest of her books ~ both Paranormal and Contemporary ~ do... but I have very high hopes for the rest of the series.

Mixed feelings

I had mixed feelings about her book, FOR THE LOVE OF JAZZ so I can understand where you are coming from.

I think I'll wait a while before I get any of...

...her other books.... Of course I already have another of her print books to read ~ No Longer Mine ~ that I got from eBay as well as four, or maybe five, ebooks.  But those I think are more along the lines of Beautiful Girl enjoyment-wise.
