#98 Man of Passion - Lindsay McKenna (SSE #1334)

Innocent naive Arianna wants to fulfil her dead mother's last dream and write/illustrate a book on orchids, so she plans a trip to Brazil but her father thinks she's too weak so he arranges for a bodyguard but tells her Rafe is a guide. Three months in Brazil changes Arianna but though she's fallen in love with Rafe she knows she has to try to get the book published so she goes back to the US. When she's finally ready to return to Rafe he's at death's door due to drugrunners. Has she left it too late to return to the man she loves?
Fascinating, powerful and intense atmosphere, nice romance, beautiful descriptions.

Great review, Sadhbh!  I am

Great review, Sadhbh!  I am a Lindsay McKenna fan, particularly of her early work.  Do you know if this book is part of a series or if it stands on its own?

It's the first in the Maverick Hearts trilogy

one of the Morgan's Mercenaries spinoffs

Hope that helps

Thank you Marty

and Michaela

I'm not great at reviews at the moment, I have bloggers burnout, but then I'm less than 70 reviews away from the 2000 mark (since I started two years ago) Surprised

Which is why I wanted to give it up this year, but when Jayne started talking about books for charity and especially since I saw the charity in question, well how could I not sign up

I mean if Mary Kay and I weren't in, there'd be a significant difference in the final totals Wink

although every book read counts for the Challenge and the literacy question

I shudder to think what my life would be like if I hadn't learned to read and write

DH might have been happier, because I might do more housework Foot in mouth but thinking of the interesting discussions we have about books, no I don't think he would have been

and besides we would likely never have met, because I wouldn't be able to work as a translator, if I could neither read nor write

RE: MAN OF PASSION by Lindsay McKenna

I will always bless me parents for instilling in me the desire to read. Cool A "Big Time" for me family after chores was hopping in the automobile, wending our way into village, each of us buying a book or novel, then sitting around the house reading it!  No recordings or TV (in fact, we didn't have telly when I was a young bloke) Foot in mouth Picture it -- me entire family, all us sitting,  curled up in easy chairs like balls of yarn, no telly, all reading our favourite books -- on a FRIDAY night! Tongue out

I've told me boys several times that if they can read, then they can do ANYTHING! Wink Sure, there are other academic subjects, but none of the others can be accomplished without the ability to READ.  AND -- it's just plain bleed*n' enjoyable! Smile

Can't argue with you on that one, Marty

do you find you read more or less than when you were younger?

RE: MAN OF PASSION by Lindsay McKenna

I've found that I've been reading a lot less than in my younger days.  Of course, I also remember listening to my favourite shows on the wireless, instead of sitting like a mummy in front of the telly.  I also got "hooked" into the internet thing when that first got popular.  I'm not against those technologies -- they have their place.  But I also believe one must get his news from READING AN ARTICLE in the news column, as opposed to watching a video blurb on his ISP's Homepage.

Thank goodness, and the fine folks around here, that dig reading!  By finding this site I've begun reading more than I have recently, and I know it has to do with all your excitement and your thrill with reading.

Apart from the fact that I won't post pictures

Tongue out DH would have fun taking pictures of me in front of the television and/or the computer with a book in my hand

I have a tendency to read the book more than watch the screenSmile
