• Another great story. I loved this one.

• Sam is an ex-S.O.S. agent now working as a geologist in Alaska. He and his friend Paul are gearing up to run the Iditarod race. It will be Sam’s second race.

• Kat is Paul’s sister and she’s returning to Alaska for an extended leave. She is an active S.O.S. agent.

• Paul breaks his ankle two days before the race and talks his reluctant sister into running the race in his place. She’s done it several times before. Paul asks her to look out for Sam as he’s still new at it. Paul then asks Sam to look after his little sister in the trail.

• But this is an Intrigue so there has to be a bad guy and he shows up not too long into the race. This is a great story. Not only do the mushers have the Alaskan elements to deal with on the 1,100 mile long dog sled race, but they have a maniac on a snowmobile after them. It’s an exciting adventure. Elle James dedicates the book to the Iditarod racers, and in particular to a couple who helped her with the descriptions of the race and equipment. You’ll learn a lot about the race without feeling lectured to. I’ve seen stories on TV about the race but this book makes me want to Goggle the Iditarod and learn even more.

I'm Sold! I'll have this book in the next few minutes!

Hi ChrissieSue:

Great review! Now, I just have to read this book. (I’ll download it right after this is posted.) There is another romance, I think it was a SSR, about a woman who lived in Alaska and raised sled dogs. I think the hero had to help her out at the last minute on the race. It was not an intrigue just an extended love story and very enjoyable.

I think the women who actually do this race are amazing. It is so tough I’m surprised that anyone really runs it. Great to know it is an eBook.

BTW, Sue Henry writes a lot of Alaskan mysteries you might enjoy. See: “Murder on the Iditarod Trail” (Alaska Mysteries) for her classic story.

                 Thanks,

I vacationed in Alaska this past year

It is a beautiful place and I had a wonderful time.  This sounds like a fun read.  I will keep it in mind.  I like Intrigue and have subscribed to it several times.

Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!

I think anyone who can race

I think anyone who can race 1100 miles in winter conditions is amazing. To stand and hang on to, and sometimes run along with the sled for hours at a time takes a lot of stamina and strength. Not just of body but of character, too. And they take care of their dog before they rest themselves.

I get grumpy just going for the mail down our 300 yd driveway in 3 inches of snow. My parents and brother went on hikes when I was young. After the first hike I went on with them, they left me home. Too grumpy. I'd rather sit in the dirt and draw pictures with twigs and pine cones.

Vince, I'll look for those mysteries.

I think the fantasy part of this book is what the couple were able to do in a double, ziped-up-all-the-way sleeping bag.

how did I Miss this one?

Great blog.  Alaska intrigues me.  Love to talk to hams there.  Thanks for the tip!  My dh and I might both like this one.
