ALPHA by Catherine Asaro

This is the sequel to SUNRISE ALLEY (which I haven't read) and features an EI (Evolving Intelligence--the next step after AI) named Alpha and is told from Thomas's pov (an army guy who was in on Alpha's capture and grows to care for her as a "person" through their adventures. It was an interesting departure for me to see Thomas' pov as the focal--though I liked him, I don't know if it had Catherine's usual deft touch with characterization and emotion, but I see where she was going. There were many plot threads sprawled throughout, and most were answered, with enough dangling for another story. (MTH)
