If you haven't watched at least the first hour and a half of the premiere show, you may not want to read this yet. I know there is still another 30 minutes left, but I have to ask: is anyone else as disturbed by some of the people auditioning this year? And WHY WHY WHY did they have to have a whacko social worker on there??? I know there's some funky Princess Leia coming up and I hope she doesn't permanently ruin Star Wars for me. And the dude with the chest hair and the whole waxing thing? Ewwwwwww!! And then this raises an even bigger question: why am I actually WATCHING this????
|

Eww
The things that people do to get on tv!!! Geez! What about the very disturbing guy that was singing to Paula that guy has creepy stalker written all over him! And umm yeah that Princess Leia girl was strange!

re
I have to get home to watch it but it sounds like it is the same again. I wonder each year why I watch it

Creepy
For some reason, this year it seems creepier!
And yes, I forgot to mention that stalker guy~ his song made me want to throw security guards around Paula and her home. I mean, ugh, how creepy can you get???

I don't like the crazy auditions
I probably won't start watching until Hollywood week. I like to hear people that can actually carry a tune. These crazy auditions annoy me.
Note to the producers of American Idol: More good singers, fewer bad ones!!!!!

Crazy auditions...
You are much wiser than I am, Vikki! I watched last night and it was just WEIRD. It wasn't even funny, unless you considered I wasted two hours watching it. Very disturbing. How many of those people were plants for publicity and how many were truly like that?
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
I'm guessing...
I'm guessing that most of them planned it. You've got to know that you can't sing. I mean somewhere along the line someone has had to tell you...."You stink, dude."
If I had a friend, brother, sister, whatever that wanted to try out for American Idol and they couldn't sing like that, they wouldn't be on the show because I would not hold my tongue.
\
Laughter is an instant vacation- Milton Berle
you would think...
I mean, these people get on there and say they sound like all these great singers and then wow, they truly stink! One guy said his coworkers encouraged him and I thought dude, do they hate you that much?
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
I really don't know why
I really don't know why these "singers" show up. They must wish for fame very badly.....I would'nt show up because I know I can't sing.
Publicity
I think some of them just want their minute of fame, even if it's embarassing. They want to be able to say they've been on TV. I was surprised to see how many of the awful people had family and friends waiting for them- friends shouldn't let friends audition and make fools of themselves when they suck!
I am definitely one of those
I am definitely one of those people that asked why I am watching this stuff, but I watch it anyway.

why do I watch?
I got hooked at the end of the first season, and have a love/hate feeling for American Idol. It seems that each year they let more and more weird characters in - they should have been turned away at the first interview. Got to be going for ratings, but geez, some of those people (chest hair guy, stalker, Princess Leia, the Gracie Slick chick) shouldn't have been allowed near tv cameras. I especially like to see people that live in my area, although last night the Glittery Gracie Slick chick was from Allentown, which is 20 miles from me. She was a whacko. Can't believe the parents (and grandparents, and friends) let these people blow up like they do. 5 minutes of tv time isn't worth demeaning yourself (or your family)!
Still, there was enough good singers that I'll continue to watch and cheer on my favorites.
Lynn
I ask myself the same
I ask myself the same thing. I said this year I wasn't going to watch it but I did end up turning back in forth. I often wonder why some of the people auidition for the show. I will probably turn back in forth to it again tonight. My question is why do some of them come back year after year, when they are going to get the same answer.

I think the saying is some
I think the saying is some people will do anything for their 15 minutes of fame. In this case it's more like 5 minutes. Others I truly believe they can sing probably because their friends and family has told them that. There's a lesson to be learned in watching this part of American Idol. If you all have a friend or relative that thinks they can sing and you know the truth. Please tell the truth before they end up on AI.

Why are we watching this?
You know it's like been drawn to watch an accident ~ or a fire... it's that it's all so bad that we're:
1. hard to belive that something like that happened
2. glad that it's not happening to US
Weird but true!

5 mins of fame
Some of them just want their 5 mins of fame. I can't believe on some of these bad singers that no one has ever told them they are bad singers. I think it is a way for them to be on tv

It just really makes me wonder...
I mean, wouldn't you tell someone, no, BEG someone not to go on there if they sounded or acted like some of these people?? Sheesh, what people will do for fame.... And yes, it is a LOT like watching a train wreck~ there's that sick fascination (as I'll probably watch again tonight) and yet all the time I wonder why the heck I'm watching. I got hooked somewhere in the 1st season, and have watched faithfully through most of it. I know last season I lost interest but other than that, I've kept watching. Why oh why do I do it???? And THANK GOODNESS I don't live near the Allentown chick! Although I'm sure some Floridians will rear their scary heads soon enough!!

Train wreck! That's what I meant, and failed miserably at, to say. *sheesh*

william hung wannabes
I think alot of these people that are terrible hope that they can become the next William Hungs. Remember how awful he was and Simon said mean things and people took pity on him so there he ended up with a record deal which I found to be sick. I really think some of these awful people will hope someone will take pity on them.
I like to watch the auditions yeah for the entertainment but to see if I can guess some of the actually good talent that will make it to the finals. I saw 2 or 3 last night.
People who look down on others are the real freaks of this world.
you're probably right...
the whole William Hung thing never made sense to me. I never understood why he became so popular. I mean, just because Simon said mean things? Sheesh! But that is probably what people are hoping... and I keep watching.... Who did you like best so far?
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
I fell asleep
I didnt see the whole thing...I fell asleep.
I remember one crazy chick who was just scrreeming and giving the finger to the camera...
It is amazing, how many people think they can sing. and what they will do forf 3 minutes on television.
I cant believe how serious these people are taking these auditions...it is only one audition. If you are serious about being a singer, or any kind of performer you will have to go through lots of auditins and lots of rejection. If you flip off or scream at everyone who rejects you, you will not get very far.
Show business is a small world....everyone will know somone you know, and word will spread about what a big jerk you are, and nobody is going to want to work with you.

Got Books?
Last night
Wasn't quite so bad but there was one guy with glasses that was a real nutcase! Kept making weird noises, walking in circles and had to be escorted out. Other than that yeah there were some weirdos but much more calmer than the first night.
People who look down on others are the real freaks of this world.
Re
What about the guy who made it that collects his fingernails? he could sing but I don't know if I can get past the fingernails.
also the guy with the key and his dad has the heart. that was a little wierd.
I loved the last guy in the hat. The one that had the song for Simon.
Karen

Last night....
wasn't nearly as disturbing. Although yeah, the fingernail guy bugged me. And the guy with the key and his dad just seemed off; I'm hoping he was just a nice guy who didn't come across well but it seemed odd. And the guy who had to be escorted out... um, Douglas maybe? He was just WEIRD!!! But I loved the last guy! That was actually funny!

I fell asleep on these people again last night.
I dont know what most of these people were thinking when the decided to audition. They are pathetic.
We'll see what happens tonite.

Got Books?
record it
I record it since it comes on while I am at work. this works great then I get to fast forward during the horrible ones. I did that a lot last night. Really some bad ones
Karen
My goal in life is to survive. Everything else is just a bonus.
Oh!
I forgot about the the fingernail guy that was disgusting! I can't believe they even let him through that was just gross! And yeah the key guy and his father there was something very off about that! I feel sorry for the girl who gets involved with that if there ever is!
That last guy was hilarious!
People who look down on others are the real freaks of this world.
I'd forgotten but...
I used to record it; or rather, either I would or one of my friends would and we'd watch it at lunch at work. Of course, I don't work with her any more so that's probably why I forgot.... but yeah, it helped to be able to skip the really bad stuff.
The fingernail thing was just disgusting. Even if that was just for the show, that took a LOT of preplanning! I think the guy with the key would have bothered me less if his father hadn't worn the matching heart. Maybe if they'd just had it stored somewhere but he was going to give it to the girl, you know? I don't know... something was just off there.
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
Wednesday wasn't as bad as Tuesday...
I live near the Glittery Gracie Slick wanna-be chick from Allentown (Tuesday night's ranting 5 minutes) and there was a big front page article in the paper Thursday. She got invited on all these shows - The View, Regis and Kelly, Good Morning America, Howard Stern (naturally) - and got calls from talent agencies. Her mother said she was proud of her daughter's Idol appearance. I can't believe any self-respecting parent would condone such blatent behavior!
To be fair to them, the mother said that her daughter was called back to interview 3 times, and that a tv crew came and spent 8 hours filming at their apartment, so they thought for sure that she had made it to Hollywood. Then for the audition in front of Simon, Paula and Randy, she was shocked that they said no - it finally dawned on her when she was leaving the room that she hadn't made it and the ranting started. Maybe she'll have better luck "actressing".
I'll be back before the tv next week, not for the bad singers, but to hear some of the really good ones. Love to hear what songs they think will get them the "Golden ticket"!
Lynn
Gracie Gliiter
But she just couldn't sing.
There were others that did home interviews that didn't make it. She still went overboard with the antics, but I guess that what you have to do to get air time.

That's interesting to know...
as I can understand how the glitter chick would think that based on all of the preshow stuff. And sad that she got all of the calls for other shows and her mom is proud because it really fosters such a negative role model type image.
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge
Gracie
She really wasn't as bad as I thought she would be but she just didn't have the image for American Idol and her actions afterwards was proof that she didn't belong there. She would be better off in a band and I'm sure she might get offers but she did go overboard with all the cussing and stuff. The showcasing at her home would have given her false hopes its hard to say why they did.
People who look down on others are the real freaks of this world.
Gracie
A band probably would work better for her but she needs to get it together or she'll be gossip fodder more than a true performer. That is sad they set her up that way, though, as it does come across that way. I'd have been upset if I were her... although I wouldn't have done what she did!
The D2K Paranormal Junkies 2008 Challenge

I didn't watch much of the second night but I couldn't believe that guy carried around finger nails in his back pocket. I wouldn't have told anyone that I did that at all. The guy who really had me laughing was the guy who performed last and song his own song and he also had Simon written on his hat.

For the most part lastnight the people were quite tame. Even though there was that one guy with the long hair and glasses with his own song. He was quite strange!!

All,
I have always watched every episode of A.I, but this year, I could not watch the auditions. I will start watching when the good singers so to Hollywood (or is that San Diego!) After reading all your posts, I feel I really made the right choice this year. Too strange this year!

I just dont understand...
These people are taking these auditions so seriously. they just cry and/or cuss out the judges...It is just one audition.
I just want to tell these people, this is just one audition....if you are serious about being a singer, there will be other auditions. Use this as a learning experience....take the notes the judges give you seriously. It could really help you.
If you are just in it for the 3 minutes of fame, then get off my television.

I have to say I loved that girl's puppy but she couldn't sing at all. I can't believe those boys told her she could just so she would come on there. I hope she watchs the show and sees them say that on tv
