Becca Smith's husband dies suddenly of a heart attack and the night of his wake, she is overtaken by grief and needs to feel close to another person and ends up sleeping with his business partner and best friend. A few weeks later, she discovers that she is pregnant. She and her husband had made love just days before his death and had not used protection. She believes that the baby is her husband, Gabe's last gift to her. But there is the possibility that it is his business partner, Rick's, even though Rick and Becca did use protection. Becca takes Gabe's place at the company that he had with Rick. There are issues with her teenage children and Rick is always there for her.
