Book Fifty-four: “Back to the Bedroom,” Janet Evanovich, Harper, Audio, 1989, 2005 Unabridged, 5.5 Hours, Read by C. J. Critt
“Back to the Bedroom,” is an audio revival of the 1989 novel. It is exceptionally well read, as usual, by C. J. Critt.
As always with Janet Evanovich, the story is lively, funny, unpredictable, entertaining with enough danger to keep the action edgy.
“Back to the Bedroom,” is not related to the Stephanie Plum mystery stories. The heroine is in her late 20’s and is a concert cellist. She is a type “A” personality who never stops working from 6:00 am to after midnight. She is divorced and does not want to get married again. She has her own small, narrow, three story, townhouse.
The hero has won millions in the lottery and lives in the similar home next to the heroine. She has never paid much attention to him and does not know he is rich. The hero likes to own lots of toys and draw cartoons. He is about 30 years old. He was a photographer but did not make much money at it. Now he enjoying doing nothing all day.
A helicopter drops a pod on the heroine's roof and the object destroys her roof and second floor. It rains. The hero helps out with the hole in the roof and soon she is staying at the hero’s home until her roof is patched.
She can’t understand why he is happy sitting around doing nothing. There is a drug house in the area and drug busts and police and more helicopters and lots of zany action.
Hero and heroine fall in love but she calls it off because he doesn’t have a job and isn’t looking for one.
Like all good Evanovich books this one features one zany, funny, thing after another with lots of wisecracks, double-entendres, and unexpected events. The story is always entertaining and it is a genuine romance. Evanovich is very good to read between serious romances as I think this makes you enjoy them more.

Excellent
