Bad Bad Book Buyer

Oh, I have been very, very bad this month, but I am including the last week of last month as a partial excuse! I currently have 65, yes sixty-five books winging their way to me. That is more books than I currently read in a month and I have ordered all these in the last two weeks. I am weakUndecidedWink I am a bookaholic Innocent and to top it all, I have absolutely no willpower!

Thank you...

for making me feel better! My 39 books (and no, I'm not counting my review books at all! LOL!) make me seem like an amateur.  I went on a book buying spree as well....Embarassed

Bonsal, I sure now what you mean!   .... sometimes it's a very good thing the shopping cart here only allows 15 books!  LOL

but alas this is not my only source for book shopping ... and now that I"ve discovered the freedom of eBooks, I'm really having to find some control ...

right now I'm going through some lists of older books that a friend has that she's parting with ... and I know I'll have a huge box coming my way from that!

Buy buy buy

It is such a good thing that Harlequin cuts you off at 15 books but I limit myself to less than $50.00 by the bill me later option.  Just looked at the new books for August and I may have to drag out the credit card to add to the pile of TBR.  Just read a couple of books by Jeannie Watt a new writer and will have to go looking for her first book.

I am weak

I know that I am, but so many of the August books sounded good. Then harlequin had to give us special offers, so even more excuses for even more books....I am sitting here, getting everything listed on my to be read list and already trying to decide what to read next....Oh the anticipation and a three day weekend to add to the excitement. Be still my heartLaughingInnocent

now I don't feel bad

with my getting 56 in June. that was over double my reading, now I know how I accumulated my TBR pile.

Kaelee- I TRY to keep my book buying limit to about $60-$70. But why do two bills of $30 look cheaper than 1 of $60?

Oh so funny

Of course when you can say, I only spent $30 sounds so much better then I spent $60. You just don't mentioned to yourself or anyone else the second number.....(haha)Tongue out

Bonsal

oops just got depressed

the 56 was just two shipments when adding all new books together it came to 95Embarassed(feel better now)

Bonsal....

If they ever come up with a cure for being a bookholic... I sure don't want it. <gg>  Book geeks are a fine bunch of folks, IMO.  Overbuying books is something that happens frequently around my house, and it might lead to occasional gripes... but between you and me, I'm loving it!  So, don't feel bad for you purchases.  Bask in the luxury. Laughing

The sad part...

I'm still buying tons of books but mainly right now I'm reading the ones I got for review!

You know...  I've been

You know...  I've been really really bad this with the July and August books, buying them as soon as they come on sale...  I am in a mood where no book in my TBR pile (of hundreds) is jumping out at me and screaming "READ ME!".  It's like nothing can grab my attention, I'm very hard to please right now.  So I've been buying so many books in bookstores, because I just can't wait to come across an appealing book at the library or in my boxes of TBR.

Yup that's me

I am up to the same thing. I have so many here, but I look at them and it's nah, not yet, maybe next one, not in the mood for babies, etc, etc, etc. So that is why the buying and buying and buying.

Bonsal

Bonsal...  for me, I'm

Bonsal...  for me, I'm looking at my TBR pile right now and it's a little picked over.  I've read the first couple hundred that most appealed to me already.

Now.... what I have are tons of sheikh stories and royalty stories (which I kind of instinctively shy away from because they just don't appeal as a lifestyle or a subject of a romance novel for me).  I also have pushed aside any books with long separations or secret children popping up years down the road, because I really shy away from the angst that goes along with that and the sadness of a heroine going through pregnancy and raising her baby all alone, missing out on years and experiences with the hero that you really can't get back.  It's also hurtful that in these books the heroine usually was rejected while pregnant for very silly reasons and the hero plowed on with his playboy ways and really unfairly hurt the heroine.

So yeah....  I have hundreds of books in TBR, but I'm hesitant about what next to pick up.

I actually read two HRs yesterday, and I haven't read those since I was 15.  I've also got four SSEs in my stack from the library, because they were Jessica Bird books recommended by friends here.  Maybe these books will get me out of the rut a bit?  I'll still take a good HP over a HR/SSE though, because though the HR/SSEs might be able to avoid my ick factors, they might not have the same passion and emotional intensity of a HP (I'm really not a family life kind of girl, when it comes to romance books I'm more for youthful heroines and passion, that's probably because I'm the age of the HP heroines)

This post makes me feel

This post makes me feel better -- I've only got about 40 books on my TBR shelf!

Janet LOL

I love that you like HP books because you are the same age as the heroines. My Mom started collecting them when they first came out and she was well up in her fifties or sixties  by then and she was still reading them when she passed away at 81. She said if she was going to read a book she wanted something racy. I don't know what she would have done with a Blaze. My sister thinks all of the romances are Junk. I think that's why she is on anti-depressants and I'm not.

However when I look at my TBR pile I tell myself I must use restraint. We were away from home today so missed free book Friday and I always buy enough to get free shipping so will wait until I read some of the books that came today before I buy more. LOL

Neat that your mom was reading them for so long, sorry about her passing.  I started reading 'em when I was 11...  lol.  I'm in my 20s now.  So yeah, it is an age thing and it's also my personal preference for the steam too.  *wink*  I am a huge HP/SD reader, with paranormals and Blazes to mix it up a bit.  Haven't read many Blazes recently though, not too many have jumped out at me, and the ones that do jump out at me are the friends-to-lovers stories.  I would like to see more of those.

My sister thinks all of the romances are Junk. I think that's why she is on anti-depressants and I'm not.

Your poor sis needs an introduction to romances.  What has she read that has convinced her romances are junk?  What type of book turned her off?  I'm sure in the great genre of romance novels there must be something that will appeal to her.  Romance makes life happier that IS for sure.

About shipping...  free shipping now til July 7!  So put in your orders!  *grin*

Um . . .

Okay, that just hit one of my annoyance buttons: Being on antidepressants doesn't mean that someone simply has a negative worldview and doesn't like romances; it means that their brain chemestry is screwed up to the extent that they're not really given a say in the matter; that it's hard to enjoy the things that they already love, hard to appreciate the good things they come across, and in severe cases, hard to see a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Medication can help; being told to cheer up doesn't.  But showing you care and giving them a good romance to win them over might help.

Sorry

I am sorry I made the comment on my sister. There is no excuse for it. My dad had a nervous breakdown so I am well aware of the need for medication and the good results that come from it. My sister has a lot going on in her life right now and she is under a lot of pressure. She and her husband often give me a hard time about my choice of reading material and had just hit my hot button so I vented here. Please forgive me for the throwaway comment

I am so Baaad! I made that comment .

I am so Baaad! I just ordered more books.

I on the otherhand could not resist the $4 offer and processed two orders so I could get an even better deal. Oh well, at least I did some dedicated reading this weekend, so my tbr has dropped (hardly!!)

It's all right, Kaelee;

It's all right, Kaelee; it's a rather personal issue for me; being told by my mother that the drop in grades was my fault because I wasn't focusing enough on days that it took my all to get out of bed? Didn't leave me inclined to make jokes about it.  Just try to remember the whole picture next time.

And I think the issue with your sister sounds like something else entirely -- what business is it of hers what kinds of books you read?  Perhaps a book swap could work -- you lend her a romance you think would suit her, she lends you a 'proper' book in exchange, and you both get something extra for your TBR piles!

Bonsal ... on the promo's

I did that with the buy 2 get 3rd free ... as they give you the cheapest free it worked better separating the more expensive books from the cheaper ones .... LOL ... not that it's a huge savings but hey, every dollar counts!  ... gives us more money for other books!  :D

Book buying habits

DON'T feel guilty!  You are just giving the rest of us something to strive for.  Keep the examples up, you are an inspiration to us all!  Maybe if we all bought that many books this economy of ours would turn around faster.

Have a great summer, and keep the news coming!
