Open forum, friends, so have at it. Everyone likes the opportunity to get a little something off their chest.
**special disclaimer** This is not about harlequin boards, and has nothing to do with them. I'm rather not involved in them and too often forget they even exist =X.
No, this is not an April Fools Day joke, unlike Virgle. Google is a bunch of practical jokesters. I refuse to believe anything they post today. REFUSE.
I've also never been big on AFD - though some pranks are terrific. There are websites about them, so I won't talk about some great ones. Such as arm the homeless, or harvesting spaghetti.
[Insert deleted whining]
Maybe if I could do a song and dance, jump around a little bit. I'd get more comment/contest love. All of which are things I'd be willing to do in real life for free books. I'm a law student. I can't afford pride. Maybe once I have a real job and make a dent on my monumental loans, I can buy me some. I also have rhythm and a nice voice, so this would actually be a good thing.
AH! I remember my original rant. Are any of you part of online boards, forums, or yahoo groups? I feel like... if you are technologically... well, let's be kind and say not inclined, you should not be a moderator. If you're one step away from licking your finger and sticking it in the socket, please please PLEASE for the love of God, do not step into a position of technological control. Really. Also, moderating, is not the same as spamming. I'm part of a lot of yahoo groups. Too many. There was one I looked at rather indulgently, kind of like a little kid with grubby fingers, that you think is cute, but kinda nasty, but you let them hang around because they're harmless and it's nice to help out humanity.
Now, however, there are new moderators, who make me want to drop my head against my poor little laptop. Hard. I don't want them posting to the entire group "I don't know how to post! Why aren't my posts showing up?" One of them asked if s/he could sign into the yahoo group using his/her gmail account... I laughed because I didn't want to cry. I told my sister, who insisted I send the scenario to a mutual friend who works at Yahoo. @$$ that he is, he thought it was me and proceeded to talk down to me.
Someone once said they had a "problem" with some excessively chatty people - made them moderators, and all of a sudden they had responsibility and had to leave an open forum for others. Haha - unfortunately, that has not happened in the scenario at hand.
Does that get your goat? When you're trying to talk about something, and people think it's you? I had to ask about getting a felon a hunting license (do not even ask) - because my boss refused to listen to the first 4 reports I made, I had to contact -including email - the Hunting whatever it is. I clearly laid out the facts and explained the scenario, and got the response telling me to ask my parole officer. I'm sorry for those who have been through "the system," but I was offended. Learn to read, people. Don't shoot the messenger, either. I had to file some Homesteads, conveyances and PoA's today, and the secretaries/paralegals just had an off day, and each document was wrong. The people in the county recorders office - sorry, Fiscal Office just went nuts. Cool.
Since nobody likes reading my book reviews, I guess I'm just going to be your go-to rant girl. After all, I've maxed out all my DP books. Nobody commented on the past two DP reviews. *snivel* Haha. No, I'm not demanding pettings... OR AM I?
As consolation reading all of this... let me share this with you. If you go there, then to the original owner saying "limecello" sent you, you'll get extra cookies. See? I KNOW HOW TO SHARE THE LOVE.
Happy April Fools, everyone. I hope you had a nice and safe day, or if you got pranked, it was a good one.
p.s. - /Disclaimer - I DO NOT PRE-WRITE OR EDIT MY POSTS.
DOUBLE DISCLAIMER - I know I said it above, but, there's no reason not to say it again. I was in on way referring to the harlequin boards. The mods here are wonderful. They're extremely helpful, answer questions, keep discussion moving, but DO NOT spam us or make it all about them.

Sometimes a good rant makes it better
Aliquis, I think that you will find the moderators in our community to be extremely knowledgeable and professional in their duties and hope that your rant helped rid you of your bad feelings. I reviewed your messaging on our boards and saw that you were made a part of the conversations that you posted in. So I can only hope that you are venting your frustration in general over having had a bad day.

Whoops
Jayne,
I wasn't talking about harlequin boards. I'll make a note of that in the post. I meant other boards - mostly... dare I say it? Yahoo.
I know exactly what you
I know exactly what you mean. I'm a member of quite a few yahoo groups, and have noticed the same thing. Most of them have wonderful people who actually read and pay attention to what you've written, but there are always a few. Those are the ones who it would take a 2x4 to the back of the head for them to get what you're saying. I avoid getting into it with them, but it always makes me wonder how well they function in the real world if their (not they're or there
- pet peeve) grasp of the basics is so limited.

Hi VBL!
That's what I'm talking about. I'm a member of a lot of groups too - the vast majority are great. A few, however, are very spammy - with nearly 2K messages A DAY. Also, there are the people who post the exact same message in 10 groups. Ah well - what can you do.
Also - thank you so much!
I don't have time to participate ......
on many online boards ...... mostly I'm here and on an online support group for Lupus ...
I do know what you mean about "moderators" changing once given the priviledge ..... it happened on a support group I previously participated on ..... it got so bad that I just stopped posting there ... and then everyone worried about where I'd gone, and stalked me until I went back and I just laid it on the line .... and I haven't posted there since .....
I like a laid back "friendly, companionable" atmosphere .... that's what we have here at eHarl .... everyone wants to be helpful and supportive .... maybe it's the fact that our common interest is lovestories .... HEA's give us such positive feelings, so maybe the negative stuff gets left at the door
can you find another group that has likewise interests? .... sometimes it's just best to let go and move on ...

Hi Katherine -
I don't have the time to be on a lot of boards either -so I shouldn't. I've seriously thought about leaving the group - and I might, soon. I'd like to give them a chance, but... I just don't know. At least I don't think the group will "stalk" me. I didn't post for one day, and got dropped from the "name listings" for them "calling for chatters." *rolls eyes*
I do like the harl community- maybe I should focus more of my attention here :)
Susan!
Hi - sorry, I finally got a chance to send you an email! Wednesdays are my bad days - 12 hrs. I have 5 classes, and teach 2 today. Ack!
