Bandwidth

100_1619.jpg

Well, mostly I'm trying out the image uploaded on here. I've been using my gallery function on my website but my bandwidth usage has shot through roof. Decided I'm not giving up using photos--I love that--but at the same time I have to find another way to do this as I'm not about to pay more for my website then I already do. Laughing

Not sure if this image loaded works for multiple photos in one post though. We'll see. It would work for when I want to do my book reviews though, so that would be good.

Okay now to test this out.

Nicole ...

I'm not sure what you mean .... are you saying by storing pics to you website you are paying more?  ... is it the uploading process that is costing you or the storage issue?

if it's the storage issue, you can set up a totally free account with www.photobucket.com  and store your pics there ... you simply use the "tree" icon in the editing tools to copy and paste the "stored" photo url from photobucket .... very easy .... and you can upload multiple pics at a time to your photobucket albums .... you can orgainze your albums into various topics .. and you can select whether your albums are open to the public or totally private  ... my are private simply because I use photobucket as the launch site for posting book covers and other pics on blogs or ebay ...

WOW, those seedlings have really jumped up! .... cute pic!

Imagination... the magical whispers from within.

HI Katherine!

I used Photobucket at one time and over the course of time switched to having my photos on my site--it was quicker and easier, one time load... well, the list goes on.

Bandwidth is the 'draw' basically of what it takes to load a page on the internet--the pictures drawing from where the url is. So each time you open a screen, wherever that may be, you are using someone's bandwidth. It could be several different places, depending on where all the photos you see are from.  Photos in general take up a lot more bandwith.  The more photos you have, the more bandwidth as well ect(of course this is assuming the pictures are based off your url, but either way it is drawing from somewhere).  Also how long you have the screen open plays into this.

So anyhow when I started posting over here as well, my bandwidth usage jumped dramatically. I simply copy and pasted meaning the photos had my site's url. This was no biggy but sooner or later you are going to meet your quota if a lot of people are constantly looking at your stuff.  And how this works is, your website package's come with a quota of bandwith usage. I have a lot.  But like I said, I was getting a lot of hits all of a sudden.

So when you go over that amount a couple of things happen--they can shut you down(my guys wouldn't, they'd contact me before it got that bad --their such sweeties!), you up the amount of bandwidth which in turn means more money of course. :-) Or you delete old photos.

I discussed my options with my web guys and in the end decided to go through Flickr. My pictures are for the most part set to private - I have no desire to get into a huge community thing with photos - I simply don't have the time. :-) But they have so many advantages...one big one being a plugin that goes to my wordpress blog and allows me to upload right there, or even directly with a drop and drag on my desktop!! Oh yeah, I love that feature! :-)

I love taking photos. I used to want to be a photographer. So the thought that I can have an infinite amount of photos, share them with friends and family yet have them for the most part private, or through my blog...is wonderful! I did end up buying the package deal which allows me the infinite number by the way...it was worth it for organization purposes and since I totally plan on sharing this with friends and family, it will make things so much easier for us all. They can download, print, send in for products, you name it. It's gonna be cool! :-)

You should see some of those seedlings now! Though I've got some which aren't looking too good to. :-) Now if we could just get some warm weather here to stay! Last night i had to cover the roses as it was freezing out! And snowed yesterday! YIKES!
