Alyssa LeBlanc loathes the bayou town of Lagniappe. It represents the nightmare of her parents' death in a fiery car crash, the crash in which she almost lost her own life. Forced to return by her Grandmere's unexpected trip to the hospital, Alyssa is greeted by witnessing the attempted murder of the Sheriff. Her quick thinking saves his life, but puts her in danger, along with fellow reporter Jackson Devereaux, the man who unknowingly got "her" job. Her natural prejudice against him keeps her from acknowledging her increasing attraction to him.
Jackson can't understand why Alyssa doesn't seem to like him. There is more going on in her family than he can comprehend. As he goes undercover, trying to discover who tried to kill the Sheriff, he does his best to protect Alyssa, who is working on her own.
Really good romance set in the steamy bayou country of Louisiana. You'll feel the heat and almost hear the mosquitoes. This is the second in Robin Caroll's new Bayou series. Looking forward to the rest, and I'm really glad I already have them!
