Be My Babies, by Kathryn Shay

The great thing about a Kathryn Shay story is that you know it won't be predictable. This one is even less predictable than usual. It's the story of Lily, pregnant with twins by her rich but abusive, alcoholic, estranged husband, and Simon, small town newspaper editor and single father of a teenage girl.

This story had so many turns, I didn't know where it was going next. And it was a real tear-jerker at times, with the characters facing difficult dilemmas. The story spanned an unsually long time period - about 15 months, I guess - which also made it different from other books I've read recently.

This book kept me thinking about it when I wasn't reading it, and again after I finished - the sign of a real page-turner! Highly recommended.
