Jessica "Jessie" Ward and Bobby Ray Smith were childhood friends. Sort of. Bobby Ray's sister beat the heck out of Jessie, and she was a geek. They're all shifters.
Bobby Ray is a wolf, as is the rest of his family, and Jessie is a wild dog. [Yes, the shifter/were world is ever expanding.] Wild dogs are cool- anyone seen Planet Earth?
Bobby Ray ships off to join the Marines, I believe - one branch of the armed forces, and years later, is hired to provide Security for Jessie's company. She's made it big, and now is the leader of her pack. There weren't many of them growing up because a virus had wiped them out.
It's a cute story about the two getting together, but not extremely substantive I think I was expecting something a bit different, so I felt a little let down.
