I have combined two books to meet the page requirement....
BEAUTIFUL GIRL by Shiloh Walker (Samhain, 156 pages)
SYNOPSIS: Delilah "Del" Prescott hasn't returned to her hometown in 12 years, ever since she ran away at the age of 16. Her best friend growing up has convinced her to come back for a reunion, but now Del will have to confront the past... and the man she left behind.
MY THOUGHTS: Oh, this is a powerful tale, maybe one of Shiloh Walker's most powerful ones yet. Del's story is heartwrenching and I alternated between tears and anger for her. As a social worker, this story really was a tough one but Shiloh Walker deftly handled such sensitive issues that the ending was both happy and full of poetic justice. Shiloh Walker is an automatic read for me, no matter what genre she writes in.
SHADOW OF THE HAWK by Judith Rochelle (The Wild Rose Press, 97 pages)
The review is already live at Kwips on this one so here it is:
Hawk Riley thought he’d hit rock bottom before, but having his truck fall on him at the doorstep of a potential employer is a new low, even for him. Maggie Devereaux, the owner of Mercy Creek Ranch, has a surprising proposition for Hawk. Despite his injuries, she needs his knowledge to prepare for the Wayback Grand Rodeo in a last ditch effort to save her ranch. Someone doesn’t want Maggie to succeed, however, and is willing to do just about anything to stop her.
Nobody knows how to write a cowboy romance better than Judith Rochelle! This talented author can take even a down and out character like Hawk Riley and redeem him into a true hero. Hawk has a disreputable past but Maggie offers him an opportunity to pull his life together. With a little help from a red-tailed hawk, this cowboy is about to show readers just how a hero handles adversity, even if it’s his own demons plaguing him. The inclusion of the red-tailed hawk adds just the right touch to make this story stand out.
SHADOW OF THE HAWK is a story in which love is the ultimate triumph. Judith Rochelle writes a beautiful romance as the sparks between Hawk and Maggie start flying from their very first encounter. While the storyline isn’t all that unique, Ms. Rochelle takes this one and makes it her own. Cowboys, particularly troubled cowboys, are pure gold in this talented author’s hands. SHADOW OF THE HAWK is an emotionally powerful tale that will leave readers thoroughly satisfied.

Wow Debbie!
I so agree with you about Shiloh Walker's Beautiful Girl; she did an outstanding job dealing with such a difficult subject. Like you Shi's an automatic read for me; her stories, regardless of genre, are always so powerful, yet they always tell a great story too.
I've never read anything of Judith Rochelle's, but that will change. Where can I find this story? I love stories like this.

Judith Rochelle....
I know she has a couple out with The Wild Rose Press. Not sure if they are on fictionwise as well, but I know you can get them from The Wild Rose Press. She's an author I've grown to love as well.

HOW
can they write a book with only 156 pages.... that is worse than Presents. I have read good things about Beautiful Girl too. I have gotten several of her books because many hear including Kathy K have raved about her.
Jeannie
Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!
Page length
All I can say is that I greatly enjoyed it regardless of the page length; I'm also giving Adobe PDF page length and in print it would probably be longer than a Presents book. It's an excellent book.

I've haven't read one of Shiloh's books yet,
But i did recently pick up one of hers used...i couldn't resist after reading one of Margie's reveiws, and the fact that this book was in such great shape.
Hunting The Hunter is the one i got...anyone read this one before? If so, is it a good book to start with?
Kathy D
I loved...
HUNTING THE HUNTER. That is actually the one I start with so you'll be fine with that one. That was her first entry into Berkley from the Ellora's Cave so it's meant to be a stand alone.
