I enjoy the historical romances by Shannon Drake (aka Heather Graham) as there is enough history blended with the romance to make it a good read!
It's the end of the nineteenth century toward the end of Queen Victoria's reign and already the telephone and automobile are becoming part of everyday life. Alexandria (Ally) Grayson has grown up and suddenly finds out that she has been betrothed since childhood. However, her fiance, Mark Farrow, does not appear at their engagement party and nor does he make a good impression when she finally meets him. Ally is a very bright young woman and does figure out the the mysterious highwayman that abducted her and her fiance are the same! They do manage to work together and solve baffling murder cases.
