A deeply disturbing look into life at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and the indefinite detention of (at the time of the book's printing) 500+ people there. Saar was an Army linguist who worked directly in interrogations and also in the day-to-day translation needs of the detainees. Perhaps the most interesting portion are the actual declassified documents in the back of the book that detail the US's stance on terrorists, the Geneva Convention, and interrogation techniques. You get everyone's view there--Bush, Powell, the Attorney General, etc. I won't go into my own political views here (this is, after all, a romance site rather than a political one!) but no matter how you feel about this issue, Behind The Wire is guaranteed to make you think again.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." ~ Theodore Roosevelt
