She's a 19 yr old painter who seeks out her biological mother. He's a neighbour of her biological mother and is very protective of them.. And suspicious of the heroine, who he catches in small lies about her family background. They are attracted anyway and she gets him to trust her story. But then things get complicated when he finds out she's most definately lied about who her mother is. She was pretending to be a distant relative because her actual biological mother doesn't want to confess to her husband that she had a baby and gave it up for adoption in her youth. She goes away. He finds out and comes back to claim her.
It's a good story, a kind of low burning passion, nice characters. I didn't like that the heroine was 19 and the hero nearly 35. That's a bit too big an age gap for me! I like heroine's to be older than 19, this one was barely out of high school.
Rating: 3.5/5 stars, a decent enjoyable read

Much younger heroine ....
this one's from 1990 ... goes to show how much Presents have "matured" in the last 18 years! ..... it's not usual anymore to have heroines under 20 in Presents
I'm glad of it .. but then I'm "older" myself .... when I first read Presents I was a young teen, and 19 was old! LOL

Sadhbh... I just ordered
Sadhbh... I just ordered about 120 old HPs off of eBay. (And I still have about 150 unread ones that I bought off eBay earlier) My reading pile grows... *rubs hands together evilly*
KatherineT... I'm not much older than 19, 22. (I've been reading HPs for a long time. :) ) But yeah... even young I don't like my heroine's in HPs to be as young as 19.
About HEROS though... I like my heros to stay under 40. And the age gap between Hero/Heroine should be max 10 years. I don't like reading books with a 20 year age gap because then I see the hero at 60 while the heroine's only 40. And I see the heroine being widowed young. :(
