Better Late Than Never? Is It True?

P9060079.JPG

This morning I was cruising this blog, thinking how strange that there had been no recent posts. A quick check of the schedule showed that I had missed my blog date! I have some excuses...the main one being that I feel as if I've been non-stop traveling (from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and quite a few places in between) since I settled my daughter in for her second year at Dalhousie University in Halifax. (And that explains the picture of the lighthouse!)

So here I am, 3 days late, asking is late really better than never?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced someone's hospitality, thought about sending flowers, or at least a thank you card, then somehow failed on the execution. Is this one of those cases where late is better than never?

And what about apologies? Gifts for important occasions that have somehow slipped by? Do you make the apology, buy the gift...or just promise yourself you'll make it up to them next time?

And how can we stop this cycle of forgetting and atoning? I'm not sure of the answer. It seems as if every woman I know is complaining about her memory not being what it should be. So on the plus side, when we're late, or we forget entirely, we can usually count on some understanding.

Maybe the answer is learning how to use technology better, so we are sent reminders for all the important events in our lives. But then isn't there a risk that we just depend on the technology and so our memories become even more feeble and unreliable?

No answers from me today. Just a lot of questions. And a promise--I really mean it!--that next time I will blog on the correct day.

CJ

Well if you're interested in apologizing, you can apologize for not looking me up when you were in town!  LOL  Though if you were here early in September, I was busier than a one armed paper hanger.  LOL

Nice lighthouse.  :-)

One of these days, we need to go for coffee when you're here.

You caught me Donna!

Maybe I didn't call, but I did think of you! Tessa is going to Summer school this year and I'm planning on a longer visit in either July or August. Hopefully there will be time for several cups of coffee with you then and a nice long chat! (Assuming you're not away on your own summer vacation...)

The cycle continues....

I have always relied on the kindness of strangers and my friends, and my family. My husband. My kids. I hate being late - but I'm terrible at returning phone calls and I feel like people are constantly doing nice things for me and I'm constantly thinking of nice things to do for other people but then never doing it.... we forgive you CJ. Sounds like you've been busy!!!

Summer

We can but try, right?  LOL.  I have no idea what's happening next summer.  I hardly have an idea what's happening TOMORROW!

Good At Thinking About it.

Molly, with two young children, you're allowed to rely on the kindness of others every now and then! And Donna....yes, when we meet it will be the serendipity of two women with crazy schedules finding the perfect moment.

Definitely better late than

Definitely better late than never.  Ideally, people should do the things when they remember them, even if late, because, without any doubt, they will forget againthe next time and compound their error.

I agree with better late than never.

I just had a better late than never moment happen to me. I sent in a late "in memory of donation". It was a couple of months after the funeral. Got a card from the family saying that they had received notification of the gift on the departed person's birthday. The daughters said it made the day mean more to them as I had sent birthday cards to their Mom for a number of years. I think it was meant to work out that way.

Proving the point

That's a touching experience Kaelee. How wonderful that your tribute arrived at just the needed moment. Your story really proves what Fake Frenchie said, that the old adage is true. Late is better than never. Now if only I could convince my kids of this...

chronically late

I'm forever forgetting things and mailing out cards late.  The worst one is my sister's birthday - she's exactly one year younger than I am - we share the day!  And until I built a yearly reminder into my computer calender 3 WEEKS before the event, I never remember to get a card into the mail in time.

And you do know don't you that Donna's not the only Haligonian on the board?!  Wink

Same Birthdays

Hey Lynne....From Halifax, huh? Now I can forget to call you, too, when I'm in the city! Embarassed

Interesting that you and your sister have your birthday on the same day, but different years. My brother and sister were both born on Jan 11...but five years apart. Not only that, but Jan 11 is my parents' anniversary. Now, what are the odds...

I was born on my sister's birthday

She wanted a doll for her seventh birthday and got me instead.
