Beyond His Control by Stephanie Tyler
Harlequin Blaze #384 March 2008
Rating - Excellent!
Book blurb - Assistant District Attorney Ava Turkowski knows about leading a dangerous life—her father was a risk taker who died in the line of duty and her beloved brother is taking just as many chances. Now a high-profile case has landed Ava herself in the crosshairs—and the only man standing between her and certain death is the one she can't forget.
Justin Brandt was Ava's brother's best friend, her protector during her wild-child teenage years…and the object of her hottest fantasies. Now he's a highly trained Navy SEAL with a body to die for and he's been tasked with keeping Ava alive. Which means keeping her close—the closer the better…
My thoughts - I don't even know where to start. I loved this book so much! This books stands alone but revisits many of Tyler's past characters. The guys in the books are a SEAL team and all incredibly HOT and absolutely wonderful.
The main story evolved around Justin and Ava. I have to admit that I used to not enjoy reading books about people who knew each other growing up, or long lost loves but books like this one continue to change my mind and broaden my reading horizons. These two caused my heart to ache for them. Their pasts were really working against them and I loved seeing how the two managed to work it out.
There is a secondary romance in this books. But I don't want to ruin anything because it took my by pleasant surprise and if you decide to read this book I hope it is the same for you.
And Kudos to Tyler for not taking the easy way out in the end. It would have been so simple to have taken the quick happily ever after in two or three different places, but instead she made the characters work for it. I love that touch. It makes the book seem just that more real.
If you haven't read any of Tyler's Blazes I strongly recommend that you hunt them down. They have all been incredible and touching.

I put her on my have to have and read immediately after finding her first book. I love her writing, and the suspense build-up in each book. Can't wait for another one to come out. But I still want the brother's story.
