Blame it on the Blackout by Heidi Betts

Silhouette Desire # 1662 – June 2005

Lucy Grainger has been in love with her boss, Peter Reynolds since she started working for him two years ago. At first she did everything to draw his attention to her feminine wiles, but Peter never seemed to notice. Peter knows that Lucy is not a fling sort of girl, and Peter just doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t have the right genes to make a happy family life, at least not while he’s trying to establish his software company. But fighting his attraction to Lucy is becoming harder and harder to do, until the night he asks Lucy to accompany him to an awards gala where’s he’s the recipient. It’s a posh affair, so Peter splurges by giving Lucy his credit card to get all dolled up. Around midnight they sneak out of the gala only to get stuck in the elevator when the power goes out. And now the cat is out of the bag, Peter’s firm control of his claustrophobia is weakening and fast. Lucy tries just about everything she knows to try to calm Peter, but he’s quickly losing it. That is until Lucy reaches up and kisses him, and Peter is lost. Only Peter still isn’t a relationship kind of guy, can they go back to their business only relationship?

Peter is one of those hunky geeks that women gravitate to. But when it comes to Lucy Peter’s constantly opening his mouth and inserting his foot! He’s just so adorable! I loved the vulnerability his claustrophobia gave him and how terrified he becomes that Lucy is going to leave him when he explains why he can't do relationships. Lucy is a lovely heroine though not much of the go-getter that I would have liked her to be; that is until the end of the book. The elevator scene takes place in the third chapter, and then the book sort of lags where I found myself easily distracted. Though by the seventh chapter things heat up again very nicely and the balance of the book gripped me and I was eager to see how Ms. Betts brought them together. This is a read well balanced with emotional moments and fun lighter hearted ones. I really liked the secondary character Ethan, and I understand he has his own book. I’ll have to see if I can find a copy, as I’d love to see him wrapped up in knots by the right woman!

March Mini-Challenge ~~ “New-to-Me” ~ #3

  • Heidi Betts --- I’ve had this book in my TBR for quite some time. The elevator scene was the draw for adding the book to my TBR, and the mini-challenge is my push to finally read it. …. I’m glad I did. I have other books by Ms. Betts that I am looking forward to reading.

Geez

Don't you hate it when you can't remember whether or not you've read a book. This one doesn't sound familiar though. I think it was Ethan's book I read, When the Lights go Down.

ROFL ....

That's why in 2004 I started to enter the books I'd read in an Lotus Approach database  .... now at the end of each week I update the database ..... sooooo handy!  .... esp. with this mini-challenge ... I had picked out a Roxanne St. Clair book to read but when I checked my database I ready her novella in the first NASCAR Chirstmas anthology .... darn!   .... I would have enjoyed reading that book this month!  LOL

if you don't have this one .... I have an extra copy from that new box from my sister  ... just let me know

I read both of them..

I read both this book and Ethan's story.  Judging by the notes I wrote into my database, I seem to have enjoyed both of them.

I sent an email did you get it?

Katherine

I did send an email regarding the book on Monday. Did you get it?

Yes, Christa ....

I haven't been to the Post Office yet, but you should hopefully have mail by the end of the week   Laughing
