I like the distinction

I like the distinction between TBR and TBB. I usually say TBR pile/box if I already have it and list if I need to buy it. This makes more sense. Cool

For me TSTL is Too Stupid To Live

Always annoys me when a h has a TSTL moment and the H rescues her LOL.

Penn

ROFL, Penni .....

TSTL = too stupid to live!  ...... I can go for that Smile

Good Job!

Christa, Hi there & thanks for posting the acronyms, they will help all the new people.  I can remember they were a bit confusing when I first started coming here a few years ago!  It is always nice to feel comfortable & welcome when you are new.

My problem with all the newness is remembering how to find something when I come back!  Yes, I'm using favorites, friends, etc.  It just takes me awhile if I skip a day or so because I don't get anything done when I'm spending time here!! Laughing  The newness is keeping me here longer so in that respect I find it somewhat frustrating.  I'm sure as they make some changes & I get more used to it all that will change.

See you later.

Take care, happy reading,

TSTL

okay will edit TSTL. hey don't Black Dagger Brotherhood readers have a few to add like BDB

BDB Acronyms

What a good idea it is to post these acronyms Christa!
A couple that are kinda in there, but not entirely are ddil and dsil (dear daughter / dear son in-law)... the latter of course can be confused with (or at least maybe I'm the only one that can get confused Undecided) dear sister in law.... But then it probably IS only a problem of one. *sigh*

Okay for JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood ~ BDB refers to the stories and / or the Brothers in general
Then there are the "names" for our group of fans with which we came up:

SOTB ~ Sisters of the Brotherhood

LATB ~ Lusting After the Brothers

SLATB ~ Sisters Lusting After the Brothers

The latter won out over the first two mainly because we DO LATB and are the S's.
And now I'll go... Embarassed

Your tag line...

Christa, does that mean that sometimes you're "Noisily reading"? LOL

My family would say, if anyone asked them, that I often DO *noisily read* Embarassed

DonnaM

I remember last year there were a lot of questions for meaning especially H,h, HEA. Plus it took me six months to figure out TSTL and I still didn't get it rightLaughingI can so relate about getting behind when skipping a day. I'm still trying to find a grove so I come in a check for new posts on my entries, then favourite and then see what my buddies are reading, then time permitting I check "recent posts" and "Book challenge"

getting a groove...

and I thought I had one till today when I went to my own blog and there is no longer a "new" indicator to tell me there are new posts! Surprised

In the groove

Same here it was there this morning, then I went for a manicure, pedicure, facial(payment for catsittingSmile) and it was gone now I can't even see which posts have any comments unless I open themFrown Very time consuming

Good day!

OOOOO sounds like you had a REALLY good day!  I know they were here before I went to work (which doesn't sound NEARLY as good as your day) and now they are gone.  Frown

KathyK

I was going to use sil for sister in law, but I have sil for silhouette that was why I add the d in front.

yup sometime my reading can be very noisy. Background music, yellin at book when the h/H is TSTL Smile

Not quietly reading...

Oh yeah... me too ~ when anyone is TSTL  that's a great time to let out some noise.
I also have a tendency to laugh long and loud when something really catches my fancy.
But yelling ~ yeah, that's probably the main complaint my family has when I read.  *sigh*

Christa-Thank you for

Christa-

Thank you for the acronyms.  It had taken me almost all of last year to figure out what was what.  Why is it the only time I found to log on and leave comments my dds decide to fight.  Gotta to run and pull two girls apart again.  And in the middle is the dog running to his kennel with another pair of underwear..............LOLLaughing

SYT...

Silhouette Yours Truly (I only thought of this one 'cause I just read one), then there are the Flipsides; not exactly sure what acronym you would use for them ~ HF?

A couple of others that I've seen & used:

Found Another One

Another acronym I have just seen is OMG for oh my God.

kalyko

okay you got me srumped what's syt. Flipside is HFL. There's always brb meaning be right back but I don't think we'll use it much on the blogs. We also have TMI for too much information.

jdpicraux

Thanks I forgot all about OMG.

I guess there are always people who don't use smilies and then we may see <g> for grin and <gg> for huge grin. There are also people who use intials of someone's name like NR=Nora Roberts or intials for the book eg. V&VG= Vows and Vengeful Groom or series DDU=Diamonds Down Under

SYT

Kalyko

Duh I reread your post three times and you did mention what SYT was k need more coffee. maybe I shouldn't be near a computer todayInnocent

Christa...

Re-reading my post I didn't really allude to the Silhouette Yours Truly very well... I shouldn't post so close to bedtime ~ not enough brain cells functioning!  Undecided

New ones!

Thanks for the acronym list, Christa, some are pretty funny!  I've seen the usual ones on the Internet, but there are some specific to books that are new for me (TBR, TBB) :-)   What do you do when you have piles of lists of TBB?

Age of text messages

With this new age of text messenging and IM acronyms start becoming common. I have a hard time reading my son's emails because they are filled with acronyms and I can't understand it.

Smile I guess it should be want list

NFM=No Further Message

I suggested this over in the "How to Add a Book Review . . ."
forum.  Evelyn Vaughn had told me about it -- it's used somewhere
online where she likes to hang out.  I had suggested that for short
reviews or blogs we use it (and probably include the "No Further
Message" part, at least for a few months).  Kelley liked the idea but
no one else has picked up on it.  I've thought of a drawback and that
is that if someone starts a conversation about a review, a new person
coming along wouldn't know that while they'd read the whole review,
they hadn't read the disucssion.

At any rate, if you want to discuss this, come over to the "How to Add a Book Review" forum and weigh in.

Penn

Thanks Penn

seeing Penn's NFM reminded me of DNF=did not finish

DNF....

That's a great one Christa!  Not that I use it often, but it does happen.  Surprised

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

kalyko ~ Reading: One of life's little joys and a much needed reward!

went for a manicure, pedicure, facial

I want that... I do I do

glad you added the DD DS DH DIL SIL MIL

It took me a while to figure these out last year and felt TSTL if I asked.

Jeannie

Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!

Some people use ONS

for One Night Stand, but I prefer to write it out. I have a list of
ones used in emails in an Internet dictionary at work - I'll have to
scan it and email it home

Basically any time anyone uses one I'm not familiar with, I ask what it means

I've seen TTYL on these boards - i think it means Talk To You Later

My brain is fried, see y'all tomorrow

PITA...

... stands for Pain in the A$$ ... not that any of us would ever have recourse to that particular acronym, right? Smile

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

kalyko ~ Reading: One of life's little joys and a much needed reward!

Thanks Christa

I'm with Jeannie.  I always wondered what the d in dh, dd, dsil, etc. was.  I often thought about asking but I never did.  I figured it had to stand for darling or something to that effect.

I have to admit though, whenever I read it, in my head it was (and probably always will be) designated (as in: my designated husband).  Laughing

Karen, the way it was explained to me was that the d in DH

could mean "dear", "darling", "darned", "dastardly", "dipstick" or
anything else that suits your mood of the moment without you having to
specify

That way if your DH were to "lurk" on the blogs/forums
he couldn't actually find anything incriminating, because it's DH when
it's obvious you're in an excellent mood, but it's also DH when it's
obvious you're NOT Smile

Which suits me just perfectly, given that I have a DH who can't lurk because he doesn't understand enough English Laughing

A little ambiguity every now and again can only be beneficial to a good marriage Innocent

What about...?

Did you get BICHOK?  Butt in chair, hands on keyboard.

I had to ask on that one when it was used. <gg>

BICHOK

I don't have a problem with BICHOK it's the getting butt out of chair to get dressed or eat. LOL

There's also...

FWIW, For what it's worth  Wink

more acronyms

OTOH = On the other hand

and I've seen someone use POV= Point of View

Jo

I've got one for you Christa...

IIRC...which means If I Recall/Remember Correctly or

If I read Correctly

Good one Shelley!

And Christa I found the one that Julie Miller used:  IOW (in other words).

And in the <g> / <gg> bag I've also seen <eg> for evil grin... I can think of a few people that would use that on a more than regular basis.  Innocent

found more on your blog

kalyko

ended up finding two more on your blog today

YTD=Year to Date (right)

BISHRS=books-I-should-have-read-sooner

Yep... YTD is right. And as for ...

the second one, it's Katherine's and I think it's excellent!  Boy there are a LOT of BISHRSSurprised

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

kalyko ~ Reading: One of life's little joys and a much needed reward!

Um, Christa, you

Um, Christa, you just commented that BISHRS means books-I-should-have-read-sooner, but on the main posting you wrote, "BISHRS=Books-I-have-to-read-sooner"

Jo

thanx Jo

thank you I went and editted it. k going to bed now. Another day I should have stayed away from the computer

BISHRS

BISHRS = Books-I-should-have-read-sooner

Actually, it was Jennie Adams who coined that phrase, or something very similiar  ... I think she said "books I should have read before now" ...  on this Challenge we are all always commenting how we should have read something a lot sooner, so BISHRS is a category we all can understand!  LOL

Now, in our TBR piles, we all probably have little mini TBR's ..... some BISRS = Books-I-Should-Read-Sooner .... these are constantly getting bumped around on my TBR!
