Lillie has realized after being in the big city for several years that she wasn't happy there. So she packs up and heads back home to Gumption, AR, missing small town life. When she gets there she finds out all is not well in the tiny little town. Her grandmother Darla Sue seems to have gone off the deep end after her husband Max ran off with another, and much younger woman.
As if that wasn't enough, there's a new pastor at the Front porch Christian Church who has his own share of problems. Not your stereotypical pastor, he is a leather jacket wearing, Harley riding James Dean-esque person. Folks in town aren't happy with him being there and random accidents start happening around town on church property. Yet as much as Lillie has noplans to ever marry, she finds herself more and more drawn to the heart and spirit of James. The Lord does work in mysterious ways...
I am more familar wih Valerie Hansen for her LIS books so I liked that she added a little undercurrent of mystery to this story. We have several different stories going on at once where all parties involved have to find strength in God's love.
