Well, as of today (17/01/08), Challenge bloggers have read 1064 books. That means 62.5 books per day. Multilplying this daily score by 365 puts the Challenge at 22 845 books by the end of the year. This is a respectable showing, but very far from the 100 000 Challenge. Will HQ donate books even if the 100 000 mark is not attained?

Book numbers...
I have been wondering the same thing. I figured that we (the challenge readers) need to read over 8000 books a month to reach the 100,000 mark. But maybe others are like me--I read more heavily in the spring and early summer. I'm also trying to get others to join. Even still, we're along way off the mark.

8000 books a month...
Holy Cow! That's a lot books. Just how many of us are there anyway?
I could, if I wanted to think, probably figure it out, but... nah... too tired.
Well, so far I've read 20 books... definitely so-so.

Book Numbers
I've been wondering the same thing as well. I've only read 9 books this month. But January is a pretty slow month for me, especially since I've been writing fairly steadily. Now June on the other hand I read a lot during that month for some reason.
It'll be interesting to see what happens

Maybe
Maybe there are some (like me) that have read books and just not posted the reviews yet. That is one of the things I hope to get done today. I have about 5 - 6 books to write up and get posted.
Hey FF notice I ventured out of the Corral..........

numbers
People are allowed to join later in the year. I think the key to getting numbers up is to bring in more new people. Tell friends and family. Even if they blog a few books, every bit helps.

Ok, maybe two
You're right, I'm expecting that we'll gain momentum through the year. I've got a book challenge Press Release going out shortly to announce our partner in this, and I do think that we have every chance of achieving our goal...as impossible as it may seem now...

Actually FF I don't agree with those numbers
We started blogging on Jan 8th, today (19th) we're up in the 1100s,
so we're averaging 100 blogs a day, while people are still getting to
know the site, getting organised after the post-Christmas rush, and
just generally spending more time on the site than actually reading, so
I reckon 50K + is a shoo-in, more than that I'd have to know exactly
how many Challengers are signed up and what buttons to push to motivate
them
okay at 48 books read this year (42 blogged) I might be the readaholic exception to the rule
(but then with all these Challengers I have to look to my laurels
)
but
I DO think that FF should sign up because she's not blogging any and
yet she's already criticising us for not making the goal
Do you know this smiley FF
It's the "put your money where your mouth is" smiley
Not that I'd dare give you advice or anything

Indignant squeek!
Now, that is not fair, dearest Gnat.
I was NOT criticizing. I was making an observation.
And I was curious to know whether or not HQ would pony up even if the 100 000 goal was not met. I could log the titles of the books that I read, but I don't want to review them and that, my dearest Gnat, is what people want to read. That's why they gravitate to the Dream Team blog to read your scintillating prose.

Dear FF that's a cop out
You can list and not blog.... yes we gravitate towards the bloggers but I click on the Book Challenge and am learning which book reviewers/bloggers not to click on because they don't put anything and many of them are voracious readers. It would be lovely to read about the books but sometimes numbers count. So get off your.... whatever and add your titles and authors. I am on Sadhbh's side on this one. Put you money where you mouth is. We need all the input we can get
Jeannie
Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!
FF .... yes, you can add to the Challenge
Just give us the bare bones then .... title, author, publisher, if an harlequin imprint which one and the number and release date
then give us a one sentence review ie.... I enjoyed this one very much. ie ... this one didn't quite work for me
and there is a review! .... so please do join us

Ah, but
I don't read enough HQ stuff. And it has to be 50/50.

when you add in the Debbie Macombers

FF, you are allowed to blog 50/ 50 for the challenge ... so the books you read over the 50 on the non-harlequin side you just wouldn't blog
