Featuring: Lady Irene Wingate and Gideon, Earl of Radbourne
Synopsis:
THE MATCHMAKER'S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE . . .
Lady Irene Wyngate swore she'd never marry, keeping suitors at bay with her caustic tongue. But there was one man she couldn't scare: Gideon, long-lost heir to the Earl of Radbourne. He had been kidnapped as a child and grew up tough on the London streets. And though he had been restored to his family, he was still more at home in gambling dens than stately ballrooms. Irene isn't attracted to Gideon, or so she says when matchmaker Francesca Haughston asks for her help to civilize him for marriage. After all, he is a true rogue with a dubious past. A handsome rogue, she has to admit, but as she reluctantly begins to yield to love, wicked family secrets come to light . . . with devastating consequences for the reluctant lovers.
Comments:
I bought this before I had read any Candace Camp (though I've read three books by her between purchasing this and reading it). I read it, despite knowing it's the second in a series and I have not read the first. And despite knowing it has a matchmaking theme (which I usually dislike...there's almost always manipulation and butting in where not needed. I have no problem with nosiness, I'm nosy myself, But I have definite issues with meddling. In any case, this book sounded interesting despite that, and I'm actually interested in reading more. Especially matchmaker Francesca's story. In fact, the dialogue between her and another character in this book has made me impatient for it.
