Calling Greek Mythology Lovers!

steph-white-retouched.jpg

One of my childhood memories is getting in trouble in class because I was so absorbed in a book that I didn't even hear the teacher come into the room--much less call my name. The book I could not pull my nose out of was about the ancient gods of Greek mythology. I was mesmerized by the monsters, the magic, and the tales of heroism. I'm still mesmerized by these things today, which may be why I write dark and sexy myth-inspired romances. I always thought I was alone in my fascination, but now that I pay more attention to popular culture, I'm noticing a lot of Greek mythology cropping up in modern media.

That's why I decided to run my Autumn Contest. I need your help brainstorming books, movies, and songs with overt
elements of Greek Mythology in them! I’ll be giving away a gift certificate and a free copy of one of my Nocturne Bites. All you have to do is post here on my blog, and I'll give you a raffle ticket for each answer.

I hope you'll be as tickled by the replies as I've been. I've written about a lot of ancient creatures including underworld nymphs, gorgons, dryads, chimeras, hydras, minotaurs and Greek Gods, but I'm not alone. There seems to be a flourishing of modern takes on mythology in the coming year, and I hope other enthusiasts welcome it as much as I do.

Hi Stephanie,

Being in a Greek background, I so understand the attraction to Greek Mythology. I even posted about how it influenced me in a blog (http://christinaphillips.blogspot.com/2009/10/eleni-fest-im-not-kick-but...) and a scanned page from a mythology book I got as a child in Greece.

 cheers

Mythology

I remember one classroom having a large hc book of Greek mythology that I read over and over and over again.  When I became an adult and my kids were bringing home the Scholastic order forms - there was that same book.  So of course I bought a copy!

I find my eldest son has much the same tastes as me in his reading, and he often asks me about mythological creatures or stories.  Its amazing how much I can remember without opening the book.

My mother tells me I always like magic / fantasy stories, and I guess the mythology was a natural branch from there; I also really enjoyed Norse mythology.

Mythological elements in my adult reading is something I enjoy finding.  I still like magic, and there is an element of nostalgia, evoking memories of all those hours reading myths during my school years.

I wish I knew more about Norse Mythology. I have to try to get into it. There's something about classical mythology that has always drawn me more--maybe because my ancestors are from that part of the world--but there are some great Viking stories I bet!
