Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins HQN Oct. 2007

Catch of the Day by Kristan Higgins is an enjoyable read. I laughed, I cried, I sighed in frustration.   The story is about Maggie who owns the town diner.  One night she drunkenly proclaims her love for the town priest, Father Tim (who is Irish and gorgeous)  Father Tim then begins a campaign to get Maggie dating more appropriate men.  After some funny bad dates, Maggie ends up with Malone, the very quiet lobsterman,

The good: Maggie's relationships with her twin sister, brother, parents and her dog Colonel.  Even her co-workers, neighbor and Father Tim.

The not so good:  Malone is so quiet and since this book is told in the first person, I never got his motivations or feelings.  Maggie and Malone don't talk much and the author takes this sensual couple and all their "between the sheets" encounters are off stage.  My biggest problem was Malone and Maggie's issues are all resolved in the last 10 pages.  I really felt like there should be another 50 pages to resolve their conflicts.

Still, I liked Kristan Higgin's style, the book was very funny at times and I will look for more books from her.  My rating 7/10

Still and all, it does sound like a jolly fun read, though. Laughing

That is exactly what I felt

That is exactly what I felt about the book.  I enjoyed the story, but wanted to understand Malone better and the resolution was just too quick.

Great minds read alike

How funny.  I just posted my review on this book today, and then I found yours.  I agree with everything you said, but still highly reccommended it with a 4 1/2 stars out of 5.  I thought that the book was almost like an inspirational romance except for the unmarried sex, but that the closed doors choice was deliberate for the tender romance readers.

I wish Kristan would bring Father Tim back in another romance.  I really loved him... he reminded me of a very young, entergetic Spencer Tracy (he played a priest several times for those of you too young to know) only probably much better looking.

If you haven't read her first HQN, Fools Rush In, I reccommend that also.  I just checked her website and it appears that she has another book due out this August.Laughing

Great minds do think alike!

I did request Fools Rush In at my library after I read this book and I will also read her book due out in August.  I was going to rate this book 9/10 until I read the last 50 pages and I was SO frustrated that Maggie and Malone's issues only got the last 10 pages,   Still it was a very good book and I'll never forget Colonel.
