This is the fourth in Susan Krinard's werewolf books. This story is about the brother of Cassidy from the first book. When Morgan Holt was only 14 years old he left his mother and sister to find his father. His father had gone to "find his fortune" and had promised to return, but had not. Morgan is accused and convicted of his father's murder and serves 9 years. When he leaves prison he simply turns into a wolf and joins a pack in the wilderness. Five years later a wounded and hunted wolf stumbles into the camp of a struggling circus. The troupers watch as it changes to a man. Since all them are outcasts they take him in and care for him until he recovers. Morgan doesn't want to owe these people anything, but he feels obligated and joins them as the "The Wolf Man" to raise enough money so that they can pay to "winter" somewhere. Niall Munroe hires them to entertain for the orphans that his sister cares for in Denver. Morgan and Athena are immediately drawn to each other and she is not frightened of him even when while saving her life she discovers what he is. As a child Athena was in an accident which crippled her legs and she moves about with a wheel chair. Niall and Athena are only half siblings. Niall's mother was actually married to their father. Athena's was not.
Lots of intrigue and secrets in this story. Again there are many interesting and rich secondary characters who make Susan Krinard's stories so enjoyable. The circus people are great and the "townies" are also important.

It's been awhile since I've read any of the books in this series, but if I recall correctly, this was my favorite of them.
The great gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap [Hah! It most certainly is not!], it consoles, it distracts, it excites. It gives knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is moral illumination. ~ Elizabeth Hardwick

I'm not sure which was my favorite though I really liked this one as well. The circus "freaks" were all so endearing and accepting of others. It was also great they way the took to Athena and Niall and really helped them. I enjoyed this series very much. All the stories were touching in one way or another.
