Okay, so for most of last year I was able to write at night - get all the kids into bed and go for it - tired at times for sure, but really it was manageable.
This year that routine hasn't worked so well - I'm not sure what it is. A combination of events I guess - the school/kindy run is busier, we have more extra-curricular activies and the twins have had a rough time with their health. Anyway, I'm finding that thru the week I'm just so tired by their bedtime that I don't have the concentration I need to write. This has led to me putting in some monster weekends.
And so, time for a change - I'm going to attempt the reverse of last year - go to bed really early and get up early. I know other writers do this - Cole gets up at 3 or 4 or something. I'm going to aim for between 4 and 5 - and bed by 8 at the latest - so an 8 or 9 hour sleep - depending on the twins of course! But we can only try right? And I do know that I am freshest first thing - definitely a lark not an owl when it comes to working productively!
So, check in with me tomorrow and I'll fess up about whether I was able to drag my sorry self out of bed ultra early on a cold and frosty morning!

Good luck, Natalie!
You must be Down Under if it is cold and frosty. I'm in Canada and was visiting a friend last week who originally hails from Perth. It was a very hot day. While she was showing me her new apartment, I glanced at her July calendar and saw snow covered trees. I certainly did a double-take until I realized it was from Oz..
I hope your new routine works for you - I am always amazed at the discipline you writers have. The only discipline I have is to ignore the housework and read!

Another Canadian chiming in
hope the new plan works for you. It sounds like a keeper to me.
I haven't had a Australian calendar for a few years now. Will look for one next year as I enjoy looking at cool pictures in summer and warm pictures in winter.

And that makes Three...
Canadians that is....
Good luck Nat. I have such a hard time when I'm off sched and when dh had to get up at 5, we were in bed at 9 every night. I got my best work done in the morning. Either way....in a few years all your kiddies will be in school and you'll be wondering what to do with yourself.

I got up just before 5 and got a little over an hour done - which is better than any weekday last week.
I don't know about discipline Ellesoar - its more desperation! ;) It makes me feel happy afterwards.
Kaylee, I'm in New Zealand (NOT Oz!!!) - and its VERY frosty - we had snow in the weekend - the 3rd bout this year - usually we only get one but its been a bad winter...

Well I will look for a New Zealand Calendar too!
Sorry about the mistake but my DH and I enjoy calendars from around the world. They are our dream makers. Sounds like you are off to a good start on your new plan. I am looking forward to the story with the ironed sheets so hope it keeps working. I admire anyone who has the imagination and determination and the pure guts it takes to write a book.

Don't be sorry
Kaylee!!! The Oz/NZ rivalry is a big thing over here and (usually) good spirited - unless its the rugby of course - LOL
We have some gorgeous scenery here (not that I'm biased) - hope you find a calendar sometime - or just watch Lord of the Rings ;)
Right, I'm off to bed early again to get in another early start... but I've got a FABULOUS guest blogger coming tomorrow so pop on over if you get the chance!
Cheers,
Natalie

Something like the American/Canadian rivalry thing? LOL When I traveled in Europe in the late 1980s, I met a lot of Canadians with their Maple Leaf flag on their backpacks. They said thy didn't want to be mistaken for Americans! LOL

I didn't backpack
but whenever I went to Europe both my DH and I wore small discreet Canadian flag pins. Yes the world is full of fun rivalries as well as the more serious kinds.

Truth be told, I didn't
Truth be told, I didn't backpack either. I lugged a suitcase around with me. But I was older than the average backpackers: 25 to their 2O-something.

Yes
I admit I always ensured to let people know I was a Kiwi not one of those Ocker types when travelling! Very much like the Canadian/US thing - I still can't tell the diff between your accents sorry! It took me along time to be able to hear the diff between Scots and Irish too.
Apologies to Ellejay for calling you Ellesoar btw
I failed on the writing front this am - had 3/4 kids up thru the night and at the crucial 4:30am time had one of the twins in ultra light sleep mode and had to have a hand on her to keep her down - I knew this would be a problem. Sigh. Might have to bite the bullet and just go back to nights!
