For quite a few years I wrote a series of books for Silhouette called The Code of the West. Most of the books were Desires, a couple were Special Editions, one was a single title, and one was part of a not-quite-continuity called The World's Most Eligible Bachelors.
I loved writing those books. And when I began to write again for Harlequin Presents (for whom I'd been writing since 1985) I still had some 'loose ends' I wanted to finish up for my Code of the West folks.
One of them was the story of Sara McMaster, the daughter of Polly, who was the heroine of The Great Montana Cowboy Auction. Sara was nineteen then, on the fast (and determined) track to medical school and a life that was completely under control.
But in the course of her mom's book, she met Irish journalist Flynn Murray, who proceeded to turn her world upside down. Flynn had more charm than any man has a right to -- and he was pretty much as smitten with Sara and her Goals and Determination as she was with him.
But he would have walked away, if she'd hadn't come to his hotel room the night before he was to leave. A guy can only withstand so much temptation. And Sara was beyond tempting.
Still, he didn't want to get in the way of her goals. And to be honest, he wasn't that much of a catch in those days -- and he knew it. He was a little too footloose. Well, maybe he was a lot too footloose.
When The Great Montana Cowboy Auction ende, Sara was expecting Flynn's child. And Flynn was nowhere to be found. Lucky for Sara she had a great family to back her up, support her, and help her grow up to be just as good a mom as her own.
All well and good, but what about Flynn? What about Sara now? What about finding them a happily ever after?
It took me 6 years (in actual time and in fictional time) but I'm happy to report that Flynn and Sara's story is out in March (actually right now -- I saw it at the drug store yesterday morning) from Harlequin Presents! It's called One-Night Love Child.
I had a terrific time writing it -- and researching it -- and it was lovely to go back to Elmer, Montana and get a feel for all those people and places again. I miss them.
I hope that everyone who enjoyed the Code of the West books will take a look for Flynn and Sara in the Presents line this month. If you want to read an excerpt of it, stop by my website from the link below.

Anne - I just read Sara & Flynn's story, I loved it. They both grew up and it showed in their love. I love the way you made the secret child theme work so I believed it and didn't dislike either character. Great story

HI Anne
I just read ONLC last weekend and really enjoyed it. I'm not familar with the COTW series, however, I've heard such good things about it that I am keeping an eye out for them.
Thanks for a great story!

Code of the West
Hi ElleJay
I'm so glad you enjoyed One-Night Love Child. I hope you will find some old copies of the Code of the West books and will find that you enjoy them, too. They were definitely books of the heart for me. Each book is, of course, but they were special because they came out of my background and allowed me to tap into old memories that made me smile whenever I thought about them.
Thanks for taking the time to come and comment here.

Hi Anne - you won't believe this!
My 2008 challenge is to log all my books into a database. So far I've logged about 450 TBR's - I hate to think what my Keeper database is going to look like. Anyway, to get back to the story, I'm grabbing a bunch of books from the TBR shelves and one fell at my feet... The Great Montana Cowboy Auction! I couldn't believe it. I have no idea when I bought it but it's been there for a while. I've now moved it to the top section of the TBR so I can get caught up.
