The Cotton Queen

This was a nostalgic glimpse into a different era…. The story revolves around a mother and daughter who learn that the things that divide them are ultimately what binds them together. It was very interesting to glimpse into the ideals of the typical fifties housewife—and more so, astonishing to parallel them with the notions of the feminist movement of the seventies. Laney and Babs both go through situations which challenge their characters, yet they both come to realize that it is these very challenges that shape the women they have come to be. This was a sweet, feel-good read!
