What makes you pick up a book? Do you see a hot cover and automatically reach? Or is it pick and choose by blurb? Is it a particular author auto-buy or line preference?
We've finally gotten out of our financial hole and I can actually go to a bookstore and not have to pick a favorite. Of course with my schedule, my tbr pile is about to overflow from the shelf. But now, fortunately, I don't have to be picky and can buy more than one or two books. Which made me think more about my choices...hunh?
Okay...before, I had to be very careful as to the books I bought. So my choice was almost always a favorite author auto-buy. I knew I could count on a great read and not regret my purchase. Now...I have the choice to venture outside of the line I'm targeting as a writer. Wow! It's been nice to read and hear the writing voices of my online buddies and follow through with recommendations for other great authors.
But...the tightwad in me...still picky. Although we can afford to splurge, my time is still just as valuable. So of course I'll stick to my auto-buys, maybe venture outside the line, but I will most likely stay within a certain comfort zone.

RE: COVERS? TITLES OR BLURBS? PARTICULAR LINES?
~~ Hee Hee ~~ How about a combination of all? I've bought a book for ALL of those reasons! The major reason, though, would be for Line. I NEVER buy "so-called" mainstream, and only after finding out the (particular) store is out of, or does not carry, Harlequin and/or Imprints, that I consider "other Imprints" (usually Dorchester). Of course, I've bought because of Cover Art. Even before beoming a Harl/Imprint reader, I always thought the cover art was cool. Then, of course, I've also bought because of a kick-ass blurb.

I saw a kick-ass cover last week and read the blurb...put the thing back down on the shelf. Haha! Yesterday, I noticed an interesting title but the blurb is what made me buy.

Got Books?
I usually
Usually I start with my tried and true authors, then the blurbs. I then go for the Desire lines and American (these are the two I have subscriptions for so I don't miss any either) I also like the SSE line. Covers rank kind of low for me but I have been known to give a book a second chance and add to cart if there is a smokin hot cowboy on the cover or a hunky guy with a baby. Recommendations hold a lot of weight too.

Hot Cowboys!
That's always a plus for me! LOL! And there's nothing sweeter than a manly man holding a tiny baby.
