This title makes up the first half of Macomber’s new Manning Sisters release. (Two of the Manning brothers have their story told in August.) It tells the story of Taylor Manning, a young woman who left Seattle to get over a recent breakup by taking a teaching job in Montana. The woman draws all kinds of stares from the small town’s male population. Russ Palmer, who’s raising his younger sister after the death of his parents, is also drawn to Taylor, even if he does think her beliefs are a bit too liberal for his taste.
Taylor’s not at all interested in jumping into another relationship, especially with a chauvinist like Russ. She’s raw from a breakup and only has a short-term contract with the school. Russ, on the other hand, is very much open to finding a lady to fill the void in his life. In addition to the character’s internal conflicts, the two find themselves at odds over Mandy, Russ’s younger sister. For example Taylor thinks it’s okay for the 14-year-old to wear a small bit of makeup, whereas Russ is dead set against it. Taylor thinks Mandy should be able to choose some of her own clothes while Russ wants his sister to dress conservatively. You get the idea.
The Cowboy’s Lady was an okay story for me. It seemed to be very traditional and like other stories I’ve read by many authors, almost to the point of being boring. This set of characters wasn’t as memorable as others she’s introduced me to either. It wasn’t bad enough for me to ditch the story altogether since I really do enjoy Macomber’s writing. It just didn’t grab me I guess. I much preferred the second story in The Manning Sisters book (review coming shortly), which tells the story of Taylor’s younger sister Christy.

Sounds familiar
Hi Jill,
I think this is a re-issue that I have read as it sounds very familar. Like you I enjoy reading Macomber but find her more recent books better than most of the older ones. She had one out last year or maybe the year before that left me wondering why it was published! It just was not up to her usual high standard of writing. Have you read any of the Cedar Cove series? Those are very good in my opinion.
I hope you, Wayne & family are doing okay.
Take care, happy reading,

Hi Jill - while I like Debbie Macomber
I find that she's not an author I can read consecutively very much, as I get saturated with her style very quickly
However as a break from paranormals, Blazes or Romantic Suspense, she interjects a nice touch of "normality"

I did some checking after I posted this, and you're absolutely right--it IS a reissue. That would explain some things. I have the whole Cedar Cove series, the Good Yarn series, and some others in my towering TBR. I tend to read one of her books (or a two-in-one), and then switch gears to a James Patterson, Stephen King, Blaze, American, or something different. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.
Take care,
