My daughter, Lisa, who is off at the University of Kentucky, wanted to add in a book that she recently read, one because she loved it, and two, because she knows I'll never get to 10 if she doesn't help me.
I hope it counts for me to have a "team" member!
The Crimson Petal and the White would be a book for people interested in the Victorian era. It's an epic novel and shows the darker side of the luxurious, chic lifestyles that are (again) centered around the British. It's about the rise and fall of Sugar, a young prostitute who finds herself in good stead with a very wealthy man who has a wife suffering from insanity due to a brain tumor. Sugar hopes to win him over and become his new wife, and besides her, there are so many characters from so many different backgrounds that the book is an interesting commentary of the caste-like system of Britain in this time period.
