Cue the Chariots of Fire theme, ya'll, because I did it. I finished my Nocturne Bites story, tonight/this morning (it's around midnight here at the moment). All the necessary elements are in place, the characters are consistent, the love scenes are written, the plot runs through start to finish, all the loose ends are tied. In a nutshell, stick a fork in it - it's done!
The story is 14117 words in length overall, and I estimate by the time I've done a thorough print and edit it will hover around 13100, which is an acceptable length.
It is a shifter story, and it is very, very sexy. I have my fingers crossed that Harlequin will pick it up. As soon as I have it cleaned up and emailed, I'll be joining the rest of the patient submission'ers on the forums. I find it always helps to have someone to wait with. :-)
On another note, my latest book came out on Tuesday. It's an anthology of strange and unusual stories called Weirdly 2: Eldritch. I have two stories included in this volume: A Trick of Light, and the other is called The Ghost Train. Other authors in this story are, C.T. Adams, Marva Dasef, James Goodman, Bernita Harris, Michael Kay - and there are many more.
If you'd be interested in winning a free pdf copy of Weirdly 2, and a set of signed author cards and bookmarks, I'm running a contest on my blog at http://corazane.blogspot.com. If there are enough entries, I will give away 2 prizes. Simply post in the comments on the Weirdly 2 thread and you'll be entered to win. The contest closes this Friday, June 27th, 2008 around noon, when I announce the winner on my blog and at the Midnight Moon Cafe. So if you'd like to drop by and just say hello, or drop in to toss your name in the hat - I'd love to see you there!
Back to the subject of writing... next week I'll hopefully be able to get my Bites story cleaned up enough for submission. I hope to make this puppy shine! Tomorrow morning - er, in a few hours, rather - I'll print it up and start red penning. Not my favorite part of the process, but there it is. Necessary, nonetheless. I'm going to try not to obsess over the book, but make it smooth enough to read without jarring.
That in mind, I'm setting a goal for myself here and now - I want to have this Bite ready for submission by no later than July 11th. I'd actually like to get it in before then. I do hope my crit partner is ready for me!
Wish me luck!
Live, love, write...
