First let me say that I love the way Marton writes and fleshes out most of her characters. The 5th book in the Cooper’s Corner series, for me, bogged down at times. I would become annoyed with Wendy and would have to set the book down for a while. I really did not like Wendy. Nothing personal it is not a failing of the author—this is my problem, but I just see her as so immature and selfish. When she finally has, a break through it seems too abrupt. Wendy is a character that unilaterally makes a decision about a relationship and acts on it—this is a character trait I do not like. Second, despite this I like the story. Seth is such a steady kind of guy—he was “there for her” in the past and despite all they have both gone through he is still there for her “now.”
This is book #5 in the series, but it was the first one I read—the books can stand alone, but it does help some to read them in order. Would I recommend this book? As part of the series, yes. As a stand alone book, I’m not sure. I do enjoy Marton’s writing style, the dialogue she uses to move the story along, these are big pluses. So, I guess even as I stand alone book I would recommend Dancing in the Dark.
