SYNOPSIS: The connection between doctors Jonah Armstrong and Jacinta McCloud is instantaneous. The only problem is their lives are so very different... or so Jonah believes. He is a doctor on a mission in Papua, New Guinea and doesn't want another woman he loves to be there. The loss of his sister many years ago has convinced him a woman just isn't safe in the jungle. Jacinta has other ideas... but what will happen when the two of them are kidnapped while in the jungle?
MY THOUGHTS: This wasn't a bad read but the back cover really gave the entire plot away (and no, that isn't what is posted above). That left little room for any of the surprises that the author had in store for the reader.
I enjoyed seeing how the doctors addressed the medical needs in the jungle and the stories of Peeta and the birth of the babies were heartwarming. I didn't realize till I'd finished the book but apparently the author is a midwife and it really showed in the way she wrote the scenes about the births as I felt her love and joy shining through.
I do have some minor complaints. I did get a little tired of Jacinta's "dark brows" being referred to. Maybe it was meant to be endearing or complimentary? And I am still not certain I buy into the story about why Jacinta joined up on the missions to follow Jonah... because that is exactly what she did.
IT'S RAINING MEN: This is a tough one for me. On one hand, the hero and heroine are perfect matches for how they worked together in the jungle. But Jacinta's reasoning behind following Jonah, a man she'd barely met, still bugs me... but I guess only a woman willing to chase Jonah would have broken through that exterior shell he had.

RE: DANGEROUS ASSIGNMENT by Fiona McArthur
Hee ~ Hee ! Sounds like a church story where two jilted singles each go on missionary holiday independent of the other and fall in love! LOL!

Good point. Sometimes I do wonder about the kinds of things in romance....things that in suspene would be very unwise actions but somehow in romance, the same actions imply chemistry?
I went on short trip to Haiti to build a Habitat for Humanity house. I trusted the priest leading it -- he, his family, and I had been friends for years. THe other group I did know beforehand from Creole classes and church... but when we got there, it was horrible and quite frankly the stress ofthe new unfamiliar environment changed most of the group for the worse. If I had seen that side of people beforehand, I never would have gone. I spent most of my time with the Haitians (my French and serious study of Creole before going helped) and I think i am the only one who had a good time. The former Trappist monk had to leave because he couldn't stand the group...fortunately for me, he gave me permission to use his room so I had a little safe place away. That's a long way to say, I am a bit more reserved and would never follow anyone. Does the medical job give it a different context than just blindly following him?

Following...
The Medical aspect gave it somewhat of a framework but it was still a bit shaky. However, the more I thought about it, the heroine had to do that or Jonah never would have let down his walls. The ending shows this pretty clearly the more I reflect on it. I guess she was just a tough heroine for me to relate to as I could never imagine doing what she did.
