A Dark and Dangerous Man by Patricia Wilson

This book was a page turner from start-to-finish. I loved the building relationship between the male and female leads. It was so unique and different to what is usually written about.

It follows the relationship between Jake Trelawny and Kathryn Holden and how they deal with their building relationship amid so much chaos that is currently happening in their lives.

Jake Trelawny is a loner whose wife has disppeared and he is the police's main susect. He is surrounded by rumours and accusations in London so he decides to go to Cornwall where he has a house deep into the forest. It is where he meets Kathryn Holden who has been through a serious accident which revealed the true nature of her boyfriend and is recovering at her aunt's nice cottage in the countryside. She is writer of children's books and uses the nature surrounding her in Cornwall to depict tiny creatures into her stories. It is during one of these trips that she meets Jake and is terrified of him but presents a confident front towards Jake.

I loved the building relationship and how Jake and Kathryn interacted and traded insults and also being strangely towards each other. The way they each thought of the other and feelings it generated in them was tantalising to read. Jake is portrayed as a 'untamed beast' who enjoys his own company who is thrust into the limelight due to the success of his books and also due to the disappearence of his wife who he detested. Kathryn understood Jake a lot more than she thought as she continues to hope that she could understand hm but she already did understand his moods and what he needed. It was bizarre how they each thought about the other and how possessive Jake was about Kathryn and he referred to her as a nymph. It was really sweet and endearing to read about a hero who was a 'untamed beast' and the way Kathryn tamed him somewhat with her love.

I absolutely adored the way Kathryn rode to his defense when anyone would disparge him and accuse him of wrongding. He was astounded that someone so 'delicate' could be so ferocious when needed. They each complimented each other. I enjoyed the opinions of other characters in the story regarding Jake's possessive and protective attitude towards Kathryn. Some people thought it to be dangerous when others thought it was like  lion protecting its cub.

I loved the story immensely and hope to read more of Patricia Wilson books in the future.
