She talks to dead people......
A year ago, archaeologist Leslie MacIntyre barely survived an explosion that took the life of her fiancé’ Matt Connolly. Since then she’s slowly come to terms with both her loss and an unsettling ability to communicate with ghosts, a “gift” received in the wake of her brush with death.
Now she’s returned to lower Manhattan, site of the explosion, to investigate a newly discovered burial ground. In this place restless spirits hold the secrets not only of the past injustice but of a deadly conspiracy against the city’s women--including Leslie herself.
By night Matt visits her in dreams, warning her and offering clues to the truth. By day she finds herself helped by--and attracted to--his flesh-and-blood cousin Joe. Torn by her feelings both men, caught between the worlds of the living and the dead. Leslie struggles against the encroaching danger. As she is drawn closer to the darkness, she must ultimately face the power of an evil mind, alone in a place where not even the men she loves can save her.
Wow what a shocking read! As usual this book was what I have come to expect from Heather Graham. It pulled me in right from the start with its great characters. It had me guessing and went along with the usual twists and turns that continued to keep me guessing. The creepy ghosts and scary moments. I found myself really liking Leslie and Joe and some of the side characters but couldn’t figure which of them were guilty of the murders. The person that it ended up being was someone that I never even suspected. And then the end wowow! What a ending I didn’t see coming it was very surprising and really made me just sit and think for a moment before finishing and even after I read the last of the book I still just sat there and thought. But it was a very interesting ending I can’t really say what without giving it away. Lets just say I cannot wait for the sequel to this book which is coming out soon!!!

re: The Dead Room
This was my first Heather Graham and I really enjoyed it...like you, I thought the characters were great and I quite liked the ending.
Do you think I should save
Do you think I should save this for a daytime weekend read. I am dying to read this one but i am not sure it is a late night booklight read. My booklight makes some really scary shadows.

re:re: The Dead Room
I have always loved Heather Graham's writing. I have never read a book of hers I didn't like they are always exciting and I can never guess who the killers are.

Hi Merri
I think you could read this at night. I really was never scared it had its creepy moments mostly with some clues and some of the situations towards the ending. The ghostly parts really weren't scary it depends on how easily creeped out you are though. This was one of those books that let you visit into the past and the ghosts that appeared were part of it.

re: dead room
oooh this one sounds so good! I haven't read one of hers in a long time!

re: The Dead Room
Paisley: Yeah, I didn't find this one scary at all. Not a criticism--I don't think it was trying to be scary, really. Contrast with The Devil's Footprints, which was nice and creepy in places--The Dead Room was more of a character-centred book.
I'm looking forward to
I'm looking forward to ordering this one this weekend. Love Heather Graham's books. Haven't read them all but have read many. This one sounds really good!!
I had to really think
I had to really think for awhile what I really thought of the ending of this one. The more I thought about it though the more the ending was just perfect.

I had...
this one in my hands yesterday but for some reason thought it was one I already had and put it back! ARGH!! I'm blaming my stupidity on the fact that I sat in parent/teacher meetings all day long and my brain was fried.

Hello everyone
Hi Michelle
Tracey, can't wait to see what you think this is up there as a fav of hers for me.
Lady_Amalthea, I agree I think the title sounds scarier than the book itself was really. It was a good thinker book!
Debk, same with me the more I thought about it the more I felt like it was perfect after some situations that I thought about especially regarding the main characters. I want to say more but I would give stuff away.
Debiw, go pick it back up lol! This would have been a great way to end a frazzled day!
