5 Stars! ~~~ This book fulfilled every expectation!
Desert Prince, Expectant Mother by Olivia Gates
Mills & Boon Medical #1484 ~ April 2008
.
.
At 27, Larrisa McPherson had worked hard to hone her skills as a trauma and reconstructive surgeon. Signing on with the GAO (Global Aid Organization) as a surgical trainer has given her the means to be in Bidalya, and covertly learn about the family of the baby she is carrying. On her first day at the Medical Complex, and from the very first look, Larrisa was mesmerized with the man approaching her. He was magnificent, and his awareness of her seemed to be of equal intensity. From that moment on her life was forever changed, for the man was Sheikh Faress Aal Rasheed, Crown Prince and he was part of the family she’d come to get to know. Faress had been absolutely bowled over with attraction from his first site of Larissa, and nothing is going to stop the unstoppable. He knows Larissa needs time, but that’s okay his patience is legendary. As they work together with the surgical teams, and he makes his not so subtle advances, they form a bonding and mutual respect. Then a disaster strikes his family and Larissa’s only desire is to comfort him. She knows she must tell him that she carries his dead brother’s baby, only how can she add to his grief? And will he understand why she didn’t tell him sooner?
When I sit down with a book by Ms. Gates, I set aside the hours I need to read and savour the story. I know that I am going to be taken on a magical journey wrought with deep emotions, from erotic passion to bitter anger and disillusionment and to all consuming joy. This book fulfilled every expectation. From the opening pages, the magnetic attraction between Larissa and Faress is palpable. And this attraction is far far more than lust; it’s an instant connection, a meeting of souls. In Faress we have everything a hero should be; strength, determination, caring, integrity. He’s a perfect match for Larissa who is all that can be admired in a heroine. In every book written by Ms. Gates that I have read, I’ve been privileged to see deeply into the hero and heroine’s hearts; and the view is tremendous! Also with every book, I’ve been compelled to immediately savour it again. And upon each reading the words do not pale but rather become more powerful, more magical.

April Mini-Challenge ~~ “It’s Raining Men” ~ #5
-
Sheikh Faress – “he had the aura of a mystical knight, with power enough to bear mythic burdens, determination enough to forge legends. Had a face to make angels weep and a body to make the gods of old fade into insignificance…” …. Oh yes, please “rain” this man on me! … the male cover model doesn’t have enough presence, perhaps that’s why they show him only in profile … and sigh, the female cover model is not nearly as vivacious as I pictured Larissa, and where is her red hair? …..I cannot, in my mind, cast Faress … sadly, the only Middle Eastern actors that I can think of are Omar Sharif and Tony Shalhoub, and neither are suitable …even a young Omar could not do justice to Faress ….. Olivia, perhaps you can cast Faress for us …. How did you envision this man?

Olivia wreaked havoc on my dinner
I went to the kitchen to make my dinner, cut up the chicken, put it on to fry real quick so I could rush back and read a page then stir, read a page, then stir. I wondered why it wasn't cooking faster. Suddenly I noticed the burner was only on 3 instead of 7 or 8

I saw him in Syriana (which I tried to watch 3 times but fell asleep on it all three times...) and Kingdom of Heaven. that's where I saw him first! He makes my toes curl!
I agree with Katherine there... Once I snuck a peak at my computer while cooking hotdog weiners... the fire alarm went off and I had to call the fire department to tell them not to send an engine... it was just burnt weiners! As you've guessed we're directly connected to the fire department through our alarm company! Oops... good thing I thought to call because it would have been embarrassing to have the firetruck come and explain... I'm sorry. I just burnt the weiners!

I am looking forward to this one. I really loved her book That is an April release. Waiting on the Desire romance now. One thing I have to say to myself......don't pick up an Olivia Gates romance one hour before I want to go to sleep on a work night ... I won't want to go sleep.

Katherine!
Oooh, another five stars from you!!!!
I'm always worried when a book of mine gets such a unanimously favorable reception like The Sheikh Surgeon's Proposal did, wondering how following books would be received, if they'd hold up in comparison. So I'm thrilled with the great reviews I've been getting for my debut Desire, The Desert Lord's Baby and now this!!!
But what I don't have words for is to describe how I feel about what you had to say about my writing on the whole. I'm truly honored by your opinion!
As for Faress, I'm so glad my second sheikh has also met with your approval. I just love it when you quote from my books!
And what a great challenge raining men is! Yep, this is why I write, to keep raining men whom I have to fall in love with first and hope my readers would follow suit.
And nope, the cover model doesn't do him justice at all. Not like my Desire cover, where the cover model *is* Farooq, the hero.
As for who to cast, well, I can't think of anyone either. Alexander Siddig is great, and I loved him since Star Trek: TNG, but he's not physically imposing or handsome enough to be Faress. I have a couple of Indian actors in mind who come close, in looks and physique, but they don't have those depths and refinements to them. Aaah, I'll just have to paint him, like I did with my Judar sheikhs on my website.

Ah Olivia!
I just adore quoting from your books ... especially your dialogues .... your writing is so very eloquent and the words invoke such a passionate response ... your style is so uniquely you, that I think if I read a passage not identified as yours, I would still know it was you
you know what book this is from .... the pain in those words stabbed my heart .... I had to pause, and breathe in .... and this was on page 20! ..... I felt Savannah's rejection by Javier to my core ... my heart fluttered all through this book .... and all in a very good way!
casting Faress .... yes, I agree ... Alexander Siddig is definitely drool worthy, but doesn't have the potency that is Faress ... your heroes would definitely be a tremendous challenge for any casting agent ... well, except for Lorenzo for whom Antonio Bandaras is perfect for!
