Do you have any reading goals as March approaches? 2 months into the Challenge, I realized that I am not reading some of my favorite subscriptions and it is really bugging me. How do I get so distracted?
My main goals for March are Mysteries, Suspense, historicals (HH and LI historicals), Medievals (fiction as well as romance) and to catch up with my MR and HR lines. That is entirely too ambitious I am afraid but I have to find some way to keep up and focus. I do not want to give up any of my subscriptions but I have to find some way to read those lines that I love enough to commit to them.
Do you have any reading goals for the month ahead? Do you have tips for reading schedules. I like reading short romances in between longer ones. Do I just sit down and go through my stack by length? By line? By subgenre (medievals and westerns and Roman before regency in my case)?

Reading goals
I have several lines I subscribe to plus I go to a local bookstore and buy books. Sometimes (well most of the time) I have more books to read than I have time to get them completed in any month. I take the subscribed books and decide an order for each line--then I interweave them. When I complete them I go to my bookstore TBR pile and just start going through them. I do tend to put favorite authors and favorite subscriptions at the top of any of my piles.

RE: MARCH READING GOALS
Just keep plugging away, I guess. I'm new to this whole thing, but I think I'm catching on ok. I'm not part of the "mini-challenge", as I knew not about it until after i had already read books, but the big goal of Harlequin sending a nice gift to help end illiteracy is smashing!

Welcome to Harlequin. I
Welcome to Harlequin. I was a newbie last year. Just sounded like a fun thing to do. I do like the this year's Challenge being part of a campaign for literacy!
Sheanden, that's a good suggestion to set aside books for the month. Some come inn the middle of the month and distract me but I stil llike your idea very much.
Hockeyjock, the Mini-Challenges aren't requited but some of Lorie's topics can really inspire I think. Some of the best mini-challenge responses come out of the most unexpected places or reads too when the topic seems to be an impossible fit for the read.

Same goal as always
My goal is usually to read more than I buy. I did well in the month of January...not doing so well this month.

In spades
I made the insane decision, late last year, that I would participate in different reading challenges on my personal blog, while still participating in the Harlequin challenge. The real "fun" part was chosing/finding imprint books that fit the requirements so I could also maintain the requirement for this challenge.
I have a master list here, if anyone wants to take peek. Feel free to leave condolences and words of pity. ;-)

Oh my, condolences is the word! I'll have to think of something to say. I feel a little better seeing your lists. I am not sure I could pull that off. We put up some shelves in another room so I vould move 1/2 of my TBR away from me so I would not get overwhelmed! I do see how it could be fun though. I like crossword puzzles and things like that.

March goals
My goal for March is to keep reading. I switch from longer books back to Desires- for a quick read, then Blaze - for a hot read, Flipside for fun - Intrigues for mystery. This keeps me from getting in a rut and reading more. I do want to read more of my Blaze pile next month. I just keep getting distracted by intriguing books at the library which I have to read first because of due dates! Meanwhile my TBR pile sits here much to my DH's dismay.
But, I do feel better about my goal after reading Miz C's You have my pity and condolences. Good luck!

My goal for March...
Make up for all the non-Harlequins I read this month.
Jo
Merri - may I suggest that you look at the number of books
you're probably going to have time to read in March, that you divide
that by the number of lines you want to read (Mysteries, Suspense, HH
and LI historicals, Medieval fiction, Medieval romance, MR and HR) and
then that you check out the descriptions of your subscription books
here and make your reading list in order of preference
and when you see recommendations in the blogs, you make your April list in order of preference of those you have (or will have by April)
you might also like to "allow" yourself to put aside certain subscription books for later (May, September etc)
because if you look at the number of books you subscribe to, and
it's more than the number of books you can read in a month, well you're
obviously going to fall behind on your subscriptions, but it's normal
and nothing to worry about
Even if the number of books you subscribe to is less than the number
of books you read in a month, you're "allowed" to feel like reading
something else, to save some for your holidays, to keep them for when
other bloggers create a buzz about them
you're being too hard on yourself, this is supposed to be fun, and a good book is a book you'll enjoy whenever you get to it
My reading goals for March are the Mbag that just arrived and ignoring the old TBR for a month
and I'm not going to even feel guilty about it

striking a chord
Paisley (I have a daughter who loves paisley), AKA Merri: the topic of reading goals really struck a chord with many of us--look at all the responses and great suggestions you have received! I have enjoyed seeing how others are sorting out what to read first and what to read next. Thanks for introducing this topic!

Challenges
The sad thing is, I've seen more challenges that I wanted to sign up for. I had to tell myself NO.
I'm curious to see how many of them I actually complete.

of some of those challenges for next year. I've already overextended myself for this year considering the volume of review books I get!

goals
My only goals are to read the review books I have and then whatever else appeals to me so don't feel bad about not having specific goals.

Not Getting Lost
Part of the reason I joined those other challenges was to help me be more organized about my reading -- not letting a favorite series, or author, get over looked. I meant to read at least one Georgette Heyer novel last year and I didn't; I wanted to read more "first published" in 2007 and didn't. I may have over extended myself a bit, but there's no pressure for me to successfully finish any of the challenges: if I do, hooray for me; if I don't, no biggie and try again next year (if that particular challenge is held again)
There's still plenty of flexiblity for me to pick what I might be in the mood for, even if it's not on any of my lists. If nothing else, I can count it in the "A-Z Challenge" and here, of course.
One of the "lessons learned" from this year's challenges: if at all possible, leave the alternate lists "TBA".

Don't worry, no way am
Don't worry, no way am giving up my short romance reads, esp. now that I have found ones that are the right fit for me. I have subscriptions now to HR and MR. My main problem with the HRs is I am basically one month behind my subscription. I have 2 more to go in the Feb. ones and 6 March ones sitting in my TBR and 6 more (April) should arrive any day now! Maybe in March I should pick a catch up week for HR and MR. My main goals for March are to catch up with the short romance, read my Medievals and suspense and mysteries and then try to get into more time periods in the HH and LI Historical line. But as soon as I set my goals I get distracted...LUNA/Rogue Angel. Some authors I like have some Presents/Desires coming out. Although those are not my preferred lines, certain authors grab me. We won't even talk about the Intrigues and SRS I have piling up. And a Room 59 is coming out soon I believe which I have to read! I think maybe I should make a couple of "free" days a month for exploring and then stick to my plans? It really helps to hear other people talk about this!! I would really like to just not think about it and pick a book ---and maybe having "free reads" can incorporate that fun spontaneity I crave too. I do not want to give up any of my subscriptions so I am trying to make progress on them too.

I think I would go nuts if I had to wait for mail in France. I really think the USPS new "streamline" system is a big joke. From what I can see, things just take longer and longer than they did before they decided to "streamline"!!
I am doing a bit better maybe than last year maybe but not like that helps because all I did last year is find more and more kinds of books I want to read!

March isn't even here yet and already the distractions
March isn't even here yet and already my March reading schedule is getting tugged and pushed!
1. Last night I received books in the mail that I have to read. I cannot put these off.
2. I went to the Romantic Suspense chat here on Harlequin and won this cool mug from Mary Burton. I was sure I had ordered her book Cold Case Cop because I really love cold case reads but I can't find it anywhere. So I ended up ordering 2 books by her this week, at least one of which I want to read this month. This is typical.
3. On March 1st, lots of good April books are going to be available on eHarlequin --- books I have been waiting to order with a lot of eagerness. I am going to want to read them ASAP just because i have been waiting already.
4. The challenge blogs....
So, for now my revised March goals for today are:
1. Read another book by Beth Ciotta because I just love this author's writing. Read these books I got last night plus at least one of the Mary Burton books I ordered when they arrive.
2. Reading all three recent Medieval HHs in my pile.
2. Catch up to my HR and MR subscriptions. Since these are shorter romances, I probably have more hope of getting somewhere on this goal.
3. Getting into my Suspense and Rogue Angels and mysteries.
4. Reading some westerns in HH and if time, some other time periods.
I have other goals but I don't think I can accomplish them. I will have to see what I actually did at the end of March.
