There is a blog about finishing books (do you finish every book you pick up to read, type question). As I was responding I realized that I have more than one TBR pile.
I have one for all my subscription books. I subscribe to several different lines. Right now I'm down to two, but I will be adding at least one or two more lines in the next few months. This pile will be intermixed with the ones I do not think I will like as well on top and the ones I believe I will enjoy the most at the bottom. This is also my priority pile.
Then I have another TBR pile of anthologies. (This does not include any anthology that might come in one of the subscription club books.) These are usually fast reads and this pile does not get very big because they are 'fast' reads for me.
Another TBR are the books from my local bookstore (LBS)-this one gets bigger when I am working thereby reducing my reading time. Eventually, I stop going to the LBS in order to prevent this pile from getting any bigger. Then during vacations this pile goes down, I start going to the LBS and I start this cycle over.
I also have holiday themed TBRs--these are usually pretty shortlived.
Do you have more than one TBR and how do you organize yours?
Nancy

Yes....
I have at least three. Soon TBR(picked from the other two), Mama's TBR (old books recieved from my mother's collection), and Vikki's TBR (books that I have purchased).
Laughter is an instant vacation- Milton Berle
I used to have four TBR, my CA TBR, NY TBR, TX TBR and home TBR
but it has recently dropped to two, my TX and my home TBRs
The home TBR can be sorted into old and recent TBRs in my head, but more
physically speaking there's the living room TBR, the attic TBR and the
bedroom TBRs. There are also JR piles (just read) if they're pending
trips abroad or to the north or have come back from trips. Which
translates into a lot of physical piles which have little if anything
to do with when I actually get to a book

I needed a good laugh
Well, now if I started counting all my piles of books, some already read (JR) and TBR, I would have more than the few I mentioned.
Nancy
Oh Gosh, I couldn't do that
I have one pile. Anything more would drive my little OCD brain crazy. I hate having the pile I have and am constantly refreshing/reorganizing it. WIthin my one tbr, I have the read soonest at the top, recommended and will get to next below that and my I really want to read this sometime at the bottom of the pile. I love my books, but can't stand to have too many around me piling up! Yicks!

Right now my TBR is in a state of chaos .....
it was so organized but then as more books arrived and I didn't have time to organize them, I've developed little piles or boxes of books that are going to be a challenge to sort through
as far as the TBR part, generally I have two piles .... one is the short pile, the pile of the books I plan to read now ... the rest are in the humugous pile that is disorganized throughout the house ... I keep telling myself I need to sort the books again but reading keeps getting in the way!

Multiple piles?
Does this mean we have too many books in our house if we have multiple piles?
Of course, in my house there are my several TBR piles, plus my dh has a TBR pile and so do my daughters.
I feel like this is 'confessions of a rabid reader'. I also have 3 bags of JR books. One is for the 'keepers.' One is for my gf and another is for special collections. At least with those the bags fill and get removed, either to storage or to my friends.

piles
I guess at times I have three. When the mini challenge is specific I go and take those book off the shelf. In January I also starting putting books I had just gotten in on a different shelf. After 3 months the are no longer "new" so they go to my regular TBR shelf(which is now ap to 1 and a half). This I have organised by line and date. My bottom shelf holds the antholgies.

Christa - my mind is boggling at the idea of only one and a
half shelves of a TBR
That's what I would call a monthly TBR LOL
(it depends on the size of the shelf

I have 3
1. The boxes of Harlequin Blaze books in order in my foyer.
2. Everything else I own is in large piles in my den and on my bookshelves -Temptations, flipsides, Love and Laughters, books by my favorite authors
3. Library books - which are in a very organized pile, so they can never get lost or misplaced in the other piles. And, library books ususally get read much faster than my other two piles. Much to DH's dismay,

piles
Multiple piles, definitely. There is the pile from my mom, the nicely sorted older TBR books that are arranged alphabetically by genre and have been in my collection since AT LEAST 2000. And then there are all the other piles, placed in no order at all in boxes and in other various piles all over the place.

Nice to know
It is just so nice to know that I'm not the only one with multiple TBR piles. LOL

My TBRs are always in flux...
...as I frequent two libraries as well as swapping books with friends and, oh, yes, buying books.......

TBR shelves
I have multiple shelves that I place all related books in order as well as any single titles to be read. Then I also have loaned books in a seperate pile so they don't get mixed in with my own. Then there are the JR piles to either return to owner or to loan out to a friend of mine because I know she'll like them and then there is the pile of keepers and need to donates! OMG!

My DH...
...has one TBR. It never ceases to amaze me that he can keep it to one, but then we go to a book store and I end up with 10 books to his one. So, I guess I shouldn't really be surprised that we have to organize them differently.
I, also, belong to several reader service book clubs and I keep them separate from the books I purchase locally.

I am really embarrassed but

I just love hearing from you
You must be feeling a little better since you are blogging again (at least I hope you are). We have so many books and bookshelves, it's pretty amazing I can keep my TBRs somewhat contained
Nancy
Many, many TBR piles....
One is good, two is better, but many is joyous. I was once snowed in for three weeks...ran out of things to read. Learned my lesson though...I moved to Florida (no snow), and never have less than four TBR piles or under one hundred books to read.....Go ninja!
And I thought I had a lot
And I thought I had a lot of books in my TBR

I grew up thinking...
I was the odd one out. Not that it really bothered me, 'cause I would just dive into another book. And books have long been my friends no matter where my life journey has taken me. But it is nice to know that there are a whole lot of wonderful people out there that love books and reading as much as I do. But then these days I have a dh and 2 out of 3 daughters that also love to read!
