Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Chicago Stars #4, 1998

Rachel Stone would have no luck at all if it wasn't for bad luck!

Rachel is going back to Salvation, North Carolina, the last place she wants to be.  After the death of her husband, TV Evangalist G. Dwayne Snopes, the town turned on her sure that she was the cause of all the problems.  She knows she will be faced with animosity but she is determined to find where Dwayne hid his "stash" of cash.  When Rachel's car dies before reaching Salvation she is at the end of her rope until she discovers that the drive-in  close to where her car died is being refurbished.  The marquee has a help wanted in large letters which seems to be a sign she is in the right place.  When Rachel applies for the job, Gabe Bonner, proves to be as stubborn as she is.  Gabe insists that he needs a man for the job.  Rachel sets out to prove she can do whatever needs to be done.

Gabe is sure, looking at Rachel's slender frame, that there is no way she can take on the manual labor he needs done before opening the drive-in for business.  Besides, he doesn't want her child around, he can't help resenting that this shy, pale boy is alive when his son no longer is.  When Gabe took on the job of re-opening the drive-in he thought it might help to keep him busy.  Since his wife and son were killed in a car wreck when they were hit by a drunk driver Gabe has been among the living dead.  Little does he know that Rachel and her child just might be his ticket back to life.

This book has it all humor, compassion, struggle to survive, love, hate, family all wrapped up in a wonderful read with a HEA.  This is the 4th book in the Chicago Stars series but it can stand alone.  The Bonner brothers have all been introduced in other books.  Besides Rachel & Gabe's story there is a good secondary story about his brother, Ethan woven in to the tale.

Up All Night!

This was one of my favorites of SEPs.  The story grabbed my heart from Page 1 and never let go.  I actually sat up one hot August night (on a Saturday, thank God).  Sat in my favorite chair next to an open window in my bedroom.  I got so engrossed in the book, I was nearly to the end when I heard the sprinklers in the back yard go on!  It was almost 5:00 a.m. and I'd stayed up all night!!

Oh yea...

Sometimes it is so hard to put a book down!  I can't remember the last time I was able to stay awake until 5 am!! Smile

I loved this book, it was a favorite.  I just finished posting the next book in the series This Heart of Mine, it would be hard to choose either of them as "favorite".  Both so good.  Now I am reading Match Me if You Can.  I just started it but am hooked!  SEP is a good storyteller!  Is that one word or two?! Laughing  This is such a good series.

Hi Donna, Looks like you

Hi Donna, Looks like you are on a SEP reading binge. I just love the way this woman writes. And this series was especially good.

Kathy D

Yea!

Hi Kathy,

SEP is great & I am on a binge of her books because I love connected books!  Better yet, I like to read the whole series all at once so I keep the characters & the connections fresh in my mind.  She is one of my favorite authors.  I just posted book #6.  Now I have to get a copy of #7 which is the last book unless she is doing more.  Her website did not indicate that there were more Chicago Stars books.

Thanks for stopping by. Smile  Have a good Sunday.  Saturday is on the down side!

Take care, happy reading,
