This is the Toronto Skyline, courtesy of CTV.ca ... as seen earlier tonight
Earth hour began in New Zealand at 8 pm local time and has progressed across the Globe .... if you go to Google and type in Earth Hour, you will see some phenomenal photos of the various capitals of the World turning off their lights .... this is a tremendous event that, I think, shows that the World can come together to find a solution to the Global climate changes
we turned our lights out ..... and looking out our front door down the street, I could see that most of our neighbours turned their lights off too ....
I felt good participating in this event .... I felt a connection with friends in New Zealand and Australia who had turned their lights off earlier ... then with friends in the UK and in the Maritimes ..... and now as the hour passes, I'm feeling connected to friends in Manitoba and later this evening I'll have had a connection to family in British Columbia ....
I was at Sunnybrook Hospital with my Mom when the 2003 US - Canada blackout suddenly happened .... we were there for one of her final radiation treatments (Mom is recovering from breast cancer) ..... and as little "world" in the Greater Toronto Area and north went dark, and there were difficulties even using the telephones, we all were thinking of horrible things .... it took over 30 minutes to get the news that there had NOT been a terrorist attack and that yes, the power was out deep into the US and up further north of Toronto .... a 45 minute drive took us 5 hours to get home ... imagine urban driving with no traffic lights and it's rush hour ... a four-way stop nightmare ... and it was one of the hottest evenings of the late summer
though tonight's earth hour has reminded me of the blackout of 2003, this time we've turned off the lights as a show of solidarity .... We, the People of our Globe, want to be a part of the solution to Global climate warming ... hopefully our Politicians will pay attention to our show that we can commit to change and commit as well

Earth Hour
I didn't find out about Earth Hour until early in the day, but I participated! During Earth Hour I took the dog for a walk around the neighborhood and saw that most of the neighbors had their lights on. It turns out a lot of people weren't aware of it. I hope next year more people participate!

Earth Hour
I didn't know anything about it. Didn't know what time or for how long. Wish they could make people more aware

July's MEMBER OF THE MONTH
I was surprised to learn that this was the second year ....
they've done a Global Earth Hour ....
I'd heard about it earlier in the week and almost forgot all about it .. until I'd tuned in to the "Weather Channel" and there was a reminder .... as it is I missed the eight o'clock mark and started about 15 min. late
I agree, Christa .. they should have publizied this better .... they did in the GTA as Toronto made a huge commitment to participate ... esp. many of the larger corporations commiting ... and they did a special concert at Nathan's Phillip Square ...
I'm looking forward to next year ... and I hope the word will get out to more communities to try this

I didnt even know about it....
I read about it in a friends blog the next morning.
I didnt hear anything about it on the news, or hear anyone talking about it at all...I usually know these things...where was I?

Got Books?
Hi Terri .....
Apparently this Global effort was started by the World Wildlife Fund ..... and probably as such, they don't have the $$$ that other organizations have to spread awareness ...... there was much scoffing about the merit of something like this but from the response of so many major cities across the Globe, I think it is a good thing
it's like Remembrance Day here in Canada Day .... on Nov 11, at 11:11 am , we stop what we are doing and share a minute of silence to think of the sacrifices of our troops past and present ....
I think it's wonderful for the Globe to take one hour, once a year to turn off the lights as a show of concern for the World's future

Rummoli by candlelight
I was partaking in a little R 'n R at my girlfriends house on Saturday (Red wine and Rummoli) and we dutifully doused the lights and played on by flickering candlelight...what fun!
