Engaging Kieran by Helen Shelton (St. Elizabeth’s Children’s Hospital #14 -- Harlequin -- 2001)

Fourteenth in the 16 book series that pre-launched (I think) the Harlequin Medical Romance line coming to NA.

A heroine who knows what she wants and a hero who is just too nice for his own good. Takes place in the anaesthetics department of “St. Lizzie’s”, a premier children’s hospital in London. H and h are both docs in the dept -- the H heads up the department. Zoe Weaver returns from a year working in Central Africa to take on a 6 month contract at St. Lizzie’s (where she has worked before). When she arrives, her brother is out of the country and she learns that her best friend, who had been engaged to her brother, broke it off and is engaged to Zoe’s new boss, Kieran Morgan. Only Zoe is convinced that her friend is still in love with her twin and that she (Zoe) and Kieran should be together. Quite a few medical scenes. I think that these books had a higher word count and more “time” to show us our characters at work. Both good, compassionate doctors fighting for their patients. This book had a voice or feel unlike any I’ve read in a long time. Moments of humor and passion and honest friendship and a heroine who lets the hero know that she wants him. Great final scene.

love this line

Penn, I am forever grateful to you for introducing me to this line.  I had just made up my mind to ignore this line completely because I was overwhelmed by my TBR and it was "Medical" until you came along and diverted me.  Now it is one of my absolute favorites.  It was definitely the biggest surprise of 2007!  That makes for 2 subscription changes (MR and HR) you have inspired.
