4.5 Stars! ~ This story brought tears to my eyes and put a lump in my throat. Awesome!
Expecting His Love-Child by Carol Marinelli
Harlequin Presents # 2704 ~ February 2008
...
Millie Andrews had given herself three months in Australia to prove her worth as an artist. She’s disappointed, not a single sale. On her last shift as a waitress in a quiet restaurant, and the eve of her return to London, Millie becomes fascinated with a couple she is serving. The woman is glamourous and very beautiful; her dinner companion is magnificent. Millie can’t keep her eyes off him, and her ears closed to their argument. The woman storms out when is it apparent that she will not get her way, and Millie finds herself pulled towards the man. Levander Kolovsky is enchanted with Millie, and sets out to give her a lovely last night in Australia. One thing leads to another, and Millie and Levander share a night of magic. Though he suggests that she stay a few days longer, Millie insists she must go home. Three months later Levander is stunned to read a tabloid expose about him and the woman who claims to be the mother of his unborn child. The article is brutal, and Levander chastises himself for having fallen under her spell.
Thanks to ElleJay’s wonderful review, I reached for this one sooner rather than later. What an awesome read! Ms. Marinelli gives us a challenging hero in Levander. His cold bleak childhood has made him unfeeling and cynical. Millie, though not worldly, has the capacity to feel the weight of the world; the agony that Levander carries and hides deep inside. There are some incredibly poignant moments as Levander learns to trust and to feel. This story brought tears to my eyes and put a lump in my throat. Awesome!

Hi KatherineT
I am so glad you enjoyed it too. I just loved this book. Levander was the most interesting hero I've seen for a long time. Didn't you just love the scene where Millie explains to him what love feels like? I thought WOW can this woman write!

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the pleasure is having lots to do and not doing it!
Yes! .....
I loved that scene! ..... I could picture it vividly in my mind, and if I were right there :) .... very powerful
I just finished a Medical of hers from last year ... it's also very intense emotionally and the hero shuts out the heroine because of a very painful past, but in that one I found some of the confrontations to be almost too bitter, too angry .... I know the words they flung at each other in their pain were credible, but I just felt so drained by it all ... the truths they spat at each other were so brutal .... it was a very compelling read and one I think I'll keep and perhaps read again ... hmmm, maybe it was their reconcilation that was "strong" enough to support their angst? ... hmmm
I'm in the middle of writing up that review, and came for a diversion as I was at a loss for words .... I think I just found them! LOL
last year I read her, Taken for His Pleasure ... in that one too the hero had a very scared past and was very emotionally detached ... but I loved the passion the heroine brought out in him ... and unusal for a Presents as the heroine was the hero's bodyguard! ... I think that one got mixed reviews because the hero was so alpha
