This is a book about family relationships. Specifically what happens when a white, upper class couple with roots back to the Mayflower on one side, have a black baby. Barbara Delinsky is a master story teller and this is just the type of story she does well. Unfortunatley in this case it seems a little flat and just not as good as her normal writing is. It's still an interesting story with interesting characters who ring true. Just to me it didn't seem as good as her usual.

Family Tree
I listened to Family Tree and really enjoyed it.
I think a lot of authors who have written as many as Delinsky has evolve as time goes on, and then people like you and I who are longtime fans get disappointed because we expect a certain style, and it's not.

The Born Readers
Outside of a dog a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx
I haven't read this one yet, but it was the first for her new
publisher, it might be interesting to see if we all feel that way about her new ones, in which case it might be the new editor's influence, rather than Barbara going "off"
